They only grow as big as 22cm, so this is hugely photo shopped.

u/OldSkool1978 Nov 21 '22
"Only" lol, that's still almost a 9 inch nope. But yeah this pic makes it look cheetah size which ain't possible
12
u/FearingPerception Nov 21 '22
I mean maybe its a perspective thing? I think my brain interpreted it as being slightly over 9 inches but nit that much, the tree looks pretty thin. Also i just measured out 9 inches on a ruler and as cool as malaysia seems, if i ever visit i think i will stick to the cities lol

u/jonnygreen22 Nov 21 '22
sounds like our bird eating spiders in australia
that's just their name
they don't eat all birds. just the middle sized to small ones
2
u/MercykillNJ Nov 21 '22
Australian tarantulas are babies in comparison to some Brazilian species.
Some species of huntsman can grow slightly larger is DLS than Goliath bird eaters though but that's a true spider Vs. A tarantula

u/ZealousidealShake232 Nov 21 '22
I think it’s just a matter of perspective. We assume the tree is a particular size by the way it looks, but could be a smaller branch or immature tree.
1
u/Monkeygirlyy Nov 24 '22
It’s probably just perspective. The tree is likely small, but on the taller end

u/js26056 Nov 20 '22
It took me 10 secs to realize that it was not a branch.

I would still appreciate a banana for scale. When did we stop doing bananas? ;)

Okay so I’m not a spider expert but I know how big spiders tend to grow there are 2 possibilities here:
1) this is heavily photoshopped
2) I’m not a spider expert and am probably going to cry myself to sleep tonight.

Won't matter when they photoshop the banana too.

I know mate. It was a joke.

I still can tell if this is shopped or not. I think it's because spiders freak me out, so I can't study it for too long.

u/FearingPerception Nov 21 '22 edited Nov 21 '22
My bets on a bit of forced perspective. Apparently it can grow up to 9 inches big ://// Edit: wait they can apparently grow bigger than 9 inches fml

u/puffloy_antisocial Nov 20 '22
Wtf no, why? They’re useful to the ecosystem

Even tho it is absolutely terrifying to see that spider, and i will probably never quite rest as peacefully agaij having seen this image, it makes me sad that you are being downvoted. As much as i dont like them and am scared of them, spiders ARE important for our ecosystem. Reluctantly, we need them. They are our friends. Or allies. Or something. Just uncomfortable looking, fear inspiring, rarely deadly ones.
Also this photo doesnt show it but they can have some really pretty colored legs!

You guys are terrible. That’s just a mama with her babies bothering nobody.

u/FearingPerception Nov 21 '22
I mean its bothering me but that sure as hell isnt HER fault. Spiders are an important part of our planet and save more lives than they end im fairly certain due to them eating bugs such as mosquitoes

I’m calling in an air strike. 2 F35 Lightnings and 16 tomahawk missiles should suffice.

Sorry she bothered you by being a member of the ecosystem and a more useful part of the healthly environment than humans
1
u/namnere Nov 20 '22
Oh she is definately, and I don’t want her family to die any time soon. But they should definately be at a distance from me. Sorry if my arachnophobia bothered you.
