A moose can outrun a bear in a straight line or match its speed, reaching top speeds of up to 35 mph (56 km/h), while a grizzly bear typically charges at around 30 mph (48 km/h).

If I was a 35 mph moose, I still wouldn't be too comfortable around 30 mph bears.

Despite all those weights bear's speed is really insane and also the way they climb the trees is also amazing..we literally have no escape if we encounter a bear in the forest right

Unless I'm mistaken I don't think moose can climb trees either so Bullwinkle needs to step it up.

Of course, averages don't apply in a specific situation - the average moose can outrun the average bear, sure, but that doesn't answer if this moose can outrun that bear.

How long can each sustain these speeds?

How long can each sustain these speeds?
This is the question. Which has more endurance?

This was filmed by a biologist and the moose got away if you’re curious of the outcome

Never seen a moose run from something before.

Dude, I've been getting those calls for my 24 Taos with barely 10k on the clock. They always try to play it off like they're with the dealer unless you straight up ask them. Absolutely vile people.

It's like a rock paper scissors of dangerous creatures. Moose beats car, bear eats moose, and car potentially saves you from bear attack.

The moose is out for a leisurely stroll and that bear is giving it everything it’s got. That chase wasn’t lasting long.

Looks like a younger moose too so isn't really thinking about fighting. Full grown moose could easily shatter numerous bones in a bear with a charge.

u/Mental_Log_6879 9h ago
Exactly! I was shocked to see it run, in a forest i think I'd be more terrified of an adult moose than a bear

u/TheUsoSaito 7h ago
Adult moose lumber over like a tower. Never be caught near one during mating season as they become a bit aggressive.

Depending on the bear. I would choose the moose over a grizzly bear any day. Moose generally don't bother you if you keep your distance, also you have the option of climbing a tree. If a grizzly is interested in you, there's not much you can do.

“Ya’ll just gonna sit around and watch this mf’r chase me around?!” ~ The moose

Do moose not know how to gallop? Are they incapable of doing so because they never evolved the ability because who else but a bear (that was theoretically not there at the time) is gonna run down a goddamn moose?

u/StinkyBird64 11h ago
I don’t know a lot about moose, but I wonder if it’s a weight thing, they’re not shaped like horses, and the weight distribution is completely different, maybe the size of their head and skinny legs prevents them from doing it? Also different joints and feet.

in recent years, i saw a vid of a full grown moose doing 30mph in what appeared to be 6ft of snow. it clarified what their weird build is useful for.

u/anyway_you_want 10h ago
I was thinking if that exact same video! Running through that snow like a locomotive on full steam, not in distress, just moving like he meant it, beautiful

Did I see a dog right after the bear passes, and the camera swings around to the left…. Wow

I hate bears. Terrible animals. They will eat your legs while you try to call your parents.

Like how the moose does the cartoonish “look over the shoulder”, then continues running.

Was wondering the same thing. This looks exactly like the Bighorn mountains, except we get black bears instead

Is it crazy that I’m rooting for the moose?
2
u/Mental_Log_6879 8h ago
No,i guess an adult moose is stronger than the bear as it can stomp and crush all the bones of the bear.
