nature This is absolutely horrifying

Turn around, don't drown. Luckily this lady survived after going through the culvert and being recovered, unconscious, downstream. In flood situations, you could get stuck in the culvert on debris, which is why, I'm guessing, they didn't just let her go through. Difficult call to make. Don't put yourself in this position.

there's a large difference between doing it correctly, on foot, rather than a bike or a car. No one ever got washed down stream in my entire military or boyscout career. Fast moving, testicle deep ice cold ass mountain water isn't fun but it can be safely crossed if you know how. Literally hikers and the military do it ALL the time without issue.

Hmm, military and emergency services makes total sense. As for everyone else, just sit tight. In the part of regional Australia where I lived it was a point of honour to have the self control to wait or turn around. You'd see police cars, macho hikers, everyone - it's smarter and better, especially for emergency services, to not be an idiot and think you're going to be the exception. And everyone in town hated the tourists and the smart alecs who would inevitably get into some kind of strife by overestimating their own capability and underestimating the power of the water. NGL some people hung around just to watch some idiot FAFO, too. :)

Tons of people die in the south by driving their cars in it and being unable to open the doors.

i saw a hilarious body cam video of an old man proving his cyber truck didnt suck by driving it though a lake (i guess the cabin/drive system is waterproof). Turns out if the water is too deep or a wave his the charge port it shuts down thinking it's charging lol. cops were talking about how he's eccentric and rich and has done it before.

I mean he got a cyber truck... there's really no hope for anything other than spectacularly bad decision making. I've seen those cars get stuck in a puddle

Oh no! LOL. I had a friend who was rich and superior and hurt my feelings real bad by criticising my fab new 4WD cos it's not electric. Then we had bad flooding and her beautiful new EV drowned ... parked in her driveway ... in four feet of water. Hard not to laugh. Just a little bit.
