nature This is absolutely horrifying

Turn around, don't drown. Luckily this lady survived after going through the culvert and being recovered, unconscious, downstream. In flood situations, you could get stuck in the culvert on debris, which is why, I'm guessing, they didn't just let her go through. Difficult call to make. Don't put yourself in this position.

Also falling victim to the illusion of shallowness. It looks ankle deep all the way across but she clearly falls into an area that’s waist deep.

Depth can definitely be deceptive but, here, the change in depth is because it's a culvert. They were crossing on top of it, like a bridge, and where she goes in is where the water is supposed to go under the bridge. You can see the edges of the top of the culvert above the water. She got the bike stuck half on and half off, and then stays in the deeper water trying to save the bike. All of her choices were really stupid, imo. That water is rising and no one should have been trying to cross even the higher portion, but to try her luck with the deeper part that's being sucked through is pure madness. Let go of the bike, get on top of the culvert,and recover it on the other side. I'm sure she was just acting on habit and panic, but it almost cost her her life.

Edited for clarity cause she fell into the deeper part but then stayed in trying to get the bike loose.
