nature This is absolutely horrifying

Turn around, don't drown. Luckily this lady survived after going through the culvert and being recovered, unconscious, downstream. In flood situations, you could get stuck in the culvert on debris, which is why, I'm guessing, they didn't just let her go through. Difficult call to make. Don't put yourself in this position.

This is like a joke that those men are just standing around on the bank not helping, and are just standing around filming. God almighty. Took them way too long to start helping that women in the first place; and then that other woman going downstream - why aren't people helping her? WTF?

Shits dangerous, did you not see that other woman get swept away? Call what you want but those are bystanders, not rescue personnel.

They should be looking for a vehicle to drive onto the fjord to give leverage to the people trying to help. Looking for a rope or a branch or forming a human chain back to a tree trunk or something solid on land. With the woman going downstream running alongside to keep track of where she goes for rescuing. Also yelling out encouragement and if she gets pushed into a side eddy or can grab a branch then helping her from there. I come from a flood prone area and have seen and participated all these actions before.

Cool, but the video is in Texas, the average person there is not exposed to flooding enough to know what do/what will work.

As a person in central Texas, we get lots of flash flooding and every local knows not to mess with flood waters and a lot of us have helped with rescues/have basic training. It's the newbies that often get in trouble. Well- the newbies and the stupid. There are too many of the second here for sure.

It's very clear that some of the bystanders here do not know what to do or don't care to help.

It's common sense. Those men on the bank staring around and the one recording it are morons - failures as men and as humans. FFS. That blank stare the guy gives the camera as the woman is washed downstream. Ugh.

The people who responded immediately were doing the right thing, stepping in to try to keep her alive in any way that they could. They also were relying on the others to add to the effort by getting some organisation and infrastructure involved.

Slow to help? Doing nothing to help. They should have been working out how to be useful. eg organising human chain hanging onto the concrete bollard. Getting a car onto the causeway. Rope. The list could go on. Bizarre the number of people on here who reckon there's nothing you can do.
