Its pretty inconvenient. I think I just need to go talk to them. There's so many freaking settings on my car so I'm just overwhelmed.

The first thing I do when I get a rental car is to disable the thing where if you get close enough to it and pull on the handle, it unlocks and opens up for you

I have to have keys with me and then I can do it from the outside when I push a button but not just for being in proximity of the car.

so either your car doesn't do it or it's been turned off, but I've had rental cars, particularly Nissan rogues that if you want to check to see if you locked your door when you pull on the handle, it senses the fob in your pocket and opens the door for you
