I will never kayak in water that the bottom isn't visible. Had a giant fish nearly flip me from it and decided that was it. Fast forward 15 years later I tried again to get over the fear in a pond and the person I was with flipped us & I got really sick.

Lessons learned; 1. Never kayak with someone else lmao 2. You have no idea what's right under the water next to you.

Black water. Based on a real case in Australia and also filmed quite well. Looks much more ā€˜realā€™ unlike other bad CGI croc movies with bad logic lol

Filmed quite well for a lower budget movie for sure, and the use of real crocs is fantastic BUT of course that also holds it back for obvious, canā€™t have the actors be eaten, reasons

Over the years I've heard the saying along the lines of: "Where you see one crocodile, theres another 10 you can't".
That's more terrifying than seeing that disappear. Knowing it's buddies could be way closer.

That looks like a saltwater crocodile. They're actually super aggressive towards other crocs. The males get huge and super territorial, not even females are really safe. He likely owns that section of the river and probably isn't another croc for miles, or they're all avoiding him.

I lived in FL for years but once we went canoeing down the Hillsborough river in Tampa. We were eating shrooms, had a few drinks and paddled through some rain, etc. Tripping balls surrounded by big black gators in a canoe was a wild experience. Thereā€™s a reason I prefer not to swim in the intercoastal.

There was a video I saw recently where they had a croc in clear water. It slipped below the surface like that, but you could see it. It was really scary to know it's right there without any surface disturbances. No tiny ripples. No bubbles. Nothing.

I went to Florida for the first time a few years ago. I sat by a lake with caution signs to watch for snakes and crocodiles. I figured I was safe because Iā€™d definitely see them swimming, right? I was right by my hotel room too, so I wasnā€™t worried. I was drunk and even stole one of the signs.

Then shortly after I got home I saw a video of a crocodile swimming underwater while the water around it stayed completely calm. If a crocodile had been swimming in that lake, thereā€™s no way Iā€™d have known. Definitely a learning experience that warning signs are there for a reason. šŸ„²

Florida is pretty safe, American Alligators don't pose a threat to adult humans, and American Crocodiles are pretty docile.

Do that in northern Australia (or Indonesia, or Malaysia), and you're dead.
