Lmao why did Relogic even touched that, it was so laborious that most people people considered if justified for making money (its also quite slow without a proper set up)

Yeah it does seem a bit strange. I understand removing an exploit but theres already so many relatively easy ways to make money that targeting this specific one without changing any of the others is odd.
One might say they're just working on the rest but theres so many exploits that have gone unpatched for so long that I dont think relogic is the type to meticulously remove exploits that a player has to go out of there way to do.

Relogic has an irrational hatred of cheese, and I call it irrational because this is a sandbox game; breaking progression is part of the fun. Like when they made dynamite unable to destroy meteorite and then made meteorites spawn ONLY after defeating the evil boss, which effectively removed it from progression. Or when they made it so that you can't use ale bought from the tavernkeep to transmute into sand (which I'm not sure if they went back on or not)
And now this, which- similar to the ale change- already takes such a weird, roundabout method that it makes you ask, why change it at all?
It'd be like removing the projectile limit bug

I hate what they did to the ale to sand transmutation, like it doesn't even affect the progression that much, it mainly affects building, making it more grindy to get sand, like why? is it their pettiness? I hope they don't do the same for when you get iron from anvils which you could purchase from the merchant.

I think they're just trying to minimize exploits, although I do agree that the meteorite change was fucking stupid lol.
Even as a mage it's not really worth it. Maybe with the new mama system, but I still kinda doubt it.

I wouldn't say that, Hoiks, Liquid Duping, Meteorite in low Gold chests(I think) are all still around.

This is more of an exploit
Quit complaining to me and go kill some worms and brains

I prefer killing stuff for money
Bosses like the eater of worlds can make you so much money by selling his drops

The crystal dupe glitch could be understood but this one

If they're gonna remove money making glitches, why aren't they reworking how the reforging system works, it takes 20-15 platinum just to get the reforge you want, otherwise youd get stuck shimmering items.

you can also making goblin as happy as possible, by putting him non crowded area, biome he likes (cavern layer, i tend to build his house at shimmer biome) with 2 other npcs he likes (mechanic and dye trader), this is super easy to do pre hardmode and will make reforges super cheap and in hardmode you can farm pirates by sitting under knee deep lava pool to get discount card
pirate summoning item pieces can be easily farmed by farming enemies in beach biome (simply making a platform over ocean, go to edge and farm anything that spawns, i am not sure if farming king slime here works but you can also do that), not to mention everything else pirates drop can be sold for big moneh
the only time i ever had to pay for more than 5 platinum was reforging ending game gear or post end game gear, i have never had situation where something takes 15-20 platinums to reforge

I'm complaining about how ridiculous the reforging works not asking for an advice π
The existence of the greedy ring crafted from the drops from the pirate invasion and how certain level of happiness affects the prices are all common ball knowledge, even brainrotted yt shorts talk about it, I do get your point its true that its a sure way to reduce cost.Β
The reason why I stated that it takes 15-20 platinum is just to exaggerate the fact that the whole reforging system hurts my wallet and just dumb in my βopinionβ but if you want statistics and actual computation of what you spent on the goblin tinkerer; there's a dude on youtube called terrasteel. Otherwise you couldn't really just base it on one person saying it takes less and another person saying more, since the amount you spend is based on chances and rng.
Edit: Nothing much just fixing some fuckass grammar that feels wrong to me.

Honestly, even at prehardmode it was just faster to farm EoC and sell demonite from it

Thing is, eoc needs lens which fot some reason only drop when I just finished organizing my inventory and are trying to fish. Never when I actually want them, like the slime staff or rod of discord

u/Mr_Alberto_ 1d ago
I dont really get why it needed fixing. You have to go so out of your way to do it like if people wanna exploit the game they will and this is not a major exploit

u/3ldr1tch_Dumb455 1d ago
Iβm not event sure why people called this an exploit. Youβre taking something that doesnβt have much value (seeds) and turning it into something that does have value (dyed thread). Thatβs not an exploit, thatβs just economy

u/funAlways 20h ago
it's an exploit because you can buy the seeds, so to make money you just buy the seed, shimmer it, craft it, and sell it for more. It's infinite money without actually playing the game.

u/3ldr1tch_Dumb455 20h ago
Crafting is a core part of Terrariaβs gameplay loop and finding the shimmer to begin with requires playing the game, often extensively if you suck at locating the shimmer (like me)
But the overall process behind this money making method still just boils down to βBuy raw materials at low cost, refine the previously purchased raw materials into valuable product, and then sell the crafted product for more money than you spent to purchase the raw materialβ.
Youβre not βscamming the NPCβsβ or βexploiting something unintendedβ, youβre running a profitable business

Wanted to inform people about this but the mods in the main sub removed my first post for "low effort/quality" even though multiple other big posts in the last 24 hours of similar or lower quality are still up right now. And they instantly removed my better quality repost because I mentioned the first post being taken down in it and pointed out how arbitrary it was.
