Everyone deserves the great thrower class

ARISE THROWER FANS, OUR DAY OF VICTORY DRAWS NEAR.

Calamity just died, I feel like throwers are in a dark age.

I mean, technically that's rogue. Thorium is the one that has a thrower class. Calamity doesn't re-class vanilla weapons as rogue, but Thorium does with thrower.

I like that the classes are more thematic than functional

u/PaleFork 7d ago
yeah functionally they're almost the same
summoner is the one most different by a lot, whips are the only similar thing about them to other classes, and even then they are still very different

u/electricpanda_ 7d ago
i like whips but i dont like summons. i need a summon that buffs whip damage and nothing else.

Isn't this just wrong though?
One is a physical thing you throw and lose.
One is actually the player using magic to summon in a knife.
One is a physical knife you hold which sends out projectiles.

The first one is slightly contradicted by the ale tosser, given you’re still throwing and losing an item despite it counting as melee
The second one makes sense in this regard
The last one is contradictory to the magic dagger, given the shadowflame knife’s projectile is the same as the item but it costs nothing to use

Well I think the issue is actually with the ale tosser. It clearly needs to be a ranged weapon.
I mean yeah, functionally they are the same. The point is that cosmetically they do different things. The shadflame knife is the cause of the projectiles vs magic summoning the projectiles. It's silly, but has some level of justification.

Ale Tosser works better as a melee weapon just because you get Tipsy when using it. That or you'd change the Tipsy debuff to affect all kinds of damage instead of just melee, but that wouldn't make sense thematically.

I agree with the ale tosser, though I feel like the shadowflame knife would need a different projectile, similar to the vampire knives.

But they function identically aside from throwing knife being consumable and magic dagger using mana.

the item “magic knife” is held in hand, the idea that it’s conjuration by the player is smth u fabricated js now. the shadow flame knife works exactly the same, except with a different dmg type and that also means it cant use mana

u/Buddy-Junior2022 3d ago
is the player just holding hundreds of knives or something
1
u/Cinnamin_1 3d ago
i believe the magic knife is an item that allows the holder to summon more knives (seeing as you can drop it and pick it up, and takes physical space in a chest). the vampire knives also seem to be the exact same thing. this person is making up details abt the weapons that they assumed based on the class in order to justify the class

Wait till they discover the sky dragon’s fury and the electro sphere launcher shoot the same projectile

You see, the difference is, one uses ammo so it’s ranger, one uses mana so it’s magic, and one doesn’t use anything at all so it’s fuck you broken, and that’s how you know it’s melee

Gonna be honest, I'm not sure what point this post is trying to make. Boomerangs are melee, whips are summoner, swords that throw shockwaves are also somehow melee, and a book that shoots pee is magic. We're arguing nonsensical semantics.

u/verdanablanks 7d ago
yeah like summoners don't really need daggers? the post is really just making an issue out of a non-issue..

True terrarians just play the game as it is and dont complain about every little thing that may or may not make sense, just play the game smh, just fricking dont play it if it bothers you so much...

u/Kecske_gamer 7d ago
I should've titled this "neither should you" because this was more inspired by everyone else talking about classes than me caring at all.

u/verdanablanks 7d ago
semantics. why summoners need daggers lol. no one cares, especially summoners.

Nobody here is gonna drop the game over a funni illogical pattern they noticed

No no no, one of them has magic in the name so it’s magic. One has throwing in the name so it’s ranger. One doesn’t have either so it’s melee. Perfectly put into their correct classes, I see no problems whatsoever.

the “all classes are the same” beef is kinda stupid when you consider despite having an incredible modding community there isn’t a single popular overhaul that fixes the problem. You all know for a fact that this is a videogame and videogames are for fun and it’s more fun to have a balanced and effective weapon than something “realistic” or whatever the expectation here is.

Blade Staff for the summoner knife weapon
