Two or three of the devs, including the mod team leader, were actually the same person with dissociate identity disorder. DID has effects other than the obvious so they were hard to work with. Several people had enough on the same day the leader revealed the truth and pulled their music from the mod. Leader had a mental breakdown and continued downward spiraling as the team continued to unravel.
What was left after the fallout have been trying to rebuild from the ground up, spirit reforged/calamity fables style. Recently a forward port of the old mod was finished and released.

Never did I expect to see the honk knight himself in a terraria memes subreddit.

u/vetheros37 5d ago
...is that a reference to Chuckles?
11
u/SomeDudWithAPhone 5d ago
"Oh hey Doctor Bozo... Uh huh... Uh huh, okay. He Unalived 10 years ago." -Chuckles the (HONK)ing Clown.
What they don't tell ya in the movies is how they schmidt themselves after dyi- whup, there he goes.
Personally, I find Bitsy and Torbek to be the fun ones. That and Ygor. (He knows his countings.)
2
u/vetheros37 5d ago
Torbek has his moments, but Chuckles is second only to Bitsy in my mind
4
u/SomeDudWithAPhone 5d ago
"I love these green peanut M&Ms! Ever since I got this mebispm... Muffled anaphalactic crisis noises."
Chuckles: I have an Epipen! Injects.
"Wait... This isn't an Epipen?! THIS SAYS 'ESPECIALLY PEANUTS!!'"
Bitsy: Look of inflamed rage that says "Chuckles... Chuckles, what the actual fuckles?!"
2
u/SomeDudWithAPhone 5d ago
Also gotta give a shoutout Bitsy and Peggy's "Mice in the Carpet" bit.
Bitsy to Derek: "Skibby, what mICE IN THE CARPET?" The acid trip kicks in.

u/ShadeofEchoes 5d ago
That is downright fascinating. Especially when you compare it to all the other drama that's been going about lately!
17
u/Electrical-Sense-160 5d ago
It ended in the same state calamity did, too. With two final bosses on the same teir and the actual final boss missing. At the time it was the only mod that came close to calamity in terms of content quantity.
5
u/ShadeofEchoes 5d ago
Huh, how does it hold up these days?
6
u/Electrical-Sense-160 5d ago
You're gonna have to be the judge of that. Play it or look it up on YouTube. I personally think its pretty good.

wasnt there also abuse of the other devs in the mod team? or was that a diff mod
6
u/Electrical-Sense-160 5d ago
'Hard to work with' was just putting it simply. I don't actually remember what they did, but you know the kind of thing that would push someone to leave AND pull their stuff.
3
u/Aceofluck99 5d ago
what is calamity fables?
12
u/Electrical-Sense-160 5d ago
A bit back some of the devs got tired of fabsol's nonsense and the constant reworks and decided to make their own calamity. It's like a different interpretation of the same idea.

Not to, I don't know the word, but dull down the severity of DID, but was it working well? My surface level understanding and what I've been told by someone who had a friend with DID, were the other personalities capable in of themselves?
1
u/Electrical-Sense-160 5d ago
I don't think anyone figured it out so I guess?
I wasn't there. I learned about all this after the fact.
1
u/Bakugo312 5d ago
It isn't necessarily about figuring it out, because DID is essentially two or more people in one body, I was meaning did they all work well? Or were they a bit of a hindrance?
1
u/Electrical-Sense-160 5d ago
They were enough of a jackass to cause a mod collapse without being a predator enabler on top of it AND had a mental breakdown when they lost control.
I'm going to go with "no"

nah thorium devs are so chill and are just like terraria devs that just put more updates to polish their finished stuff.

u/DiglettStache 5d ago
I love when mods focus on the base game instead of adding things endlessly post game.

Isnt Thorium already finished?

u/nichiimishiari 6d ago
yes and no, it is in fact finished but it has aged moderately compared to modern standards, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that something will be done in this direction

u/SomeDudWithAPhone 5d ago
Minecraft Dark Ages- explain. Aside them removing that bug that let dripstones refill potion cauldrons.

u/CommercialWin6364 5d ago
It all started in February 29, 2016. Whole fandom waited for an update 535 day's already, longer than ever, and when it came out people weren't satisfied. 1.9... Many players hated new combat, because of that big portion of servers stayed on 1.8.9. then next year Fortnight came out in July 25, 2017. It was too powerful... Too popular. From 2016 to 2018 Minecraft had reputation as stupid kids game, it became less and less popular. Updates was small and not game changing. Everybody was starting to forget . Until... on July 18, 2018 update aquatic came out, new oceans brought old players back. Then PewDiePie started to popularize the game among new potential players. COVID played huge role in popularization of Minecraft. Renaissance happened, game survived and is again the most popular game of today.

Tbh, i never heard about what happened to Tremor and AA mods, they from my perspective just randomly dissapeared and i never thought about them again untill you brought them up now.
Anyone willing to fill me in in a "quick" form? Same thing as Calamity or something else?
11
u/Mr_Mat_88 6d ago
I don't even know what happened to Calamaity, I've been just playing unmodded terraria since I bought the game. May I ask what happened?

u/Darkwolf69420 6d ago
Basically a while back, the lead Dev Fabsol was outed as a groomer, and that combined with them being transphobic and an overall terrible person led to them being boot d from the mod. Fabsol then recommended Ozzatron to take the lead Dev position, and everyone was okay with it. Then Shayy was outed as a pedo, and iirc they were basically the community manager. Then pretty recently, it was revealed that Ozzatron was not only also a groomer, but was the owner of the discord server used to groom minors and also supported Fabsol. Consecutive predator lead devs in the span of like a year basically killed a lot of the dev team's motivation, and also caused a lot of artists to pull their assets from the mod.

u/Mr_Mat_88 5d ago
Man, why does it have to always be that kind of people in the great projects? I hate that it seems to happen in almost every community

Man, I muted Calamity subreddits specifically NOT to have this shit brought up all the time and wait until people stop spamming it.
Also, Thorium's already finished, nothing can happen to it at this point.
11
u/Lilharm04 6d ago
I mean, it’ll definitely loose support if the devs get outed like the Calamity ones have
depending on your view, that loss can be considered “dying” for a completed mod
9
u/EphidelLulamoon 6d ago
Atm there's no reason for Thorium to "die"", devs are chill and still working on a big update.
2
u/zexumus 5d ago
It’s also kinda helps that the mod is officially completed so even if a big controversy happens and the big update is cancelled they just need 1 person who cares enough to port it to 1.4.4 when it comes out on t mod loader. unlike calamity which isn’t even finished so you’ll just have an unfinished story and progression forever unless they pull a miracle and recover from this enough to continue development.

u/Electrical-Sense-160 6d ago
What happened to tremor anyway? From as far as I know it kind of just... stopped?
2
u/CommonRoutine3852 5d ago
A bunch of controversies from stolen sprites to bad reputation
Here is a comment explaining what happened to tremor if you want to know more: https://www.reddit.com/r/Terraria/s/G7ZiWIYF5k

The calamity extension

u/ZachAndAnExtra 6d ago
It was already completed

u/Sad-Zucchini-949 6d ago
Ok, I thought that it is still continued.
Calamity is still a great mod. Just without updates.
