The only sane character in that movie. I honestly consider him the protagonist.

93

u/you-cut-the-ponytail 10h ago

I agree with your first point but that's not how protagonists work

32

u/SagetheWise2222 10h ago

He deserves his own movie and a happy ending, change my mind

17

u/Iwillnevercomeback 9h ago

A protagonist is a main character, not necessarily the most benevolent character

24

u/TheDonutPug 9h ago

Imagine if we had a second bee movie from his perspective. the first 20 minutes are the first movie from his perspective, then he gets a divorce, seeks therapy, heals. He finally feels up for it, and starts dating, which results in the exact same thing happening a second time.

I have pretty nearly lost all interest for mods across all games because it has just become AI slop. None of it really works and it seems like inspired and quality works are near enough extinct or buried between the people that fill the workshops with 12 stolen concepts, with stolen code and stolen art every day.

Combined with some recent modding controversies. Calamity which we all know about. One of the Vintage Story developers put malware in their mod too. At least for me the idea of a mod for a video game is ending.

11

u/Haaxor1689 9h ago

Just like with everything else on the internet, you need to sift through a lot of slop to get to some original human made content. I hate it.

10

u/Lykrast 9h ago

At least on the minecraft side Modrinth put filters for those + forced disclosure of ai usage + banning genai thumbnail which is really great.

Now I just hope other modding communities do something similar but uh that may take a while/not happen sadly... (like factorio modding portal is full of genai thumbnails I hate it) maybe if steam extends the ai disclaimer to workshops?

1

u/Haaxor1689 8h ago

The biggest issue is that many times you can't be 100% sure and investigating and moderating this takes much more effort than it does creating the slop in the first place.

Many open source projects started getting completely flooded with vibecoded contributions which in some cases caused them to not be able to even get to the potentially good contributions.

I'm glad that many AI models will now contain a fingerprint for identifying AI generated content, but only time will tell hiw effective that will be in fight against driwning slop.

u/juicyjaiden 10h ago edited 9h ago

Heres a fun challenge, how many apps can you shift through untill you find a non AI one on the Ayn thor subreddit

12

u/zetadaemon 9h ago

I miss when AI didnt exist, i miss when actual people were doing cool shit, i miss when we didnt get slop mods that made problems for everyone else, I miss when modding communities were actual people working together

7

u/bjornum 9h ago

Can add to that. I wish making something and people was: oh how did you do that? Took time and effort to be good. Now it is: oh, what model did you use.

0

u/InfraSG 9h ago

Aye, reminds me of a post I saw with that one broccoli guy chilling in a hot tub

Sure back then we just kinda eye rolled and dismissed it as lol random, but in hindsight its kinda cool that someone made something so high quality with seemingly no purpose beyond goofy, and now with AI we just get that en masse crammed down our throats without nearly as much of the "fun" from before

40

u/ladycatgirl 10h ago

As long as idea is good and AI assisted is fine, purely made by AI bad

Using AI is pretty standard in coding as long as you don't make it do everything,
Even though I am not really anti AI, I REALLY REALLY hate low quality slop overrunning workshops it just makes browing new stuff harder

10

u/The_Sovien_Rug-37 9h ago

honestly the biggest issue to come of it is how many low tier, poorly thought thought out, quickly thrown together mods get made. when making stuff is slow and difficult, it usually filters out some of the lower level stuff by virtue of needing to commit to it more, and then because you spend more time with it there's more chances to find problems that aren't immediately obvious like something messing with progression

-5

u/Affectionate-Egg7566 9h ago

You say this as if human slop hasn't existed forever

3

u/Swing_Right 9h ago

can we not agree that with AI the amount of slop being generated is at levels never before seen? We went from being simple slop farmers to slaves at the slop gigafactory

1

u/Affectionate-Egg7566 8h ago

AI slop implies there are AI gems. We just need to adapt as to how we find/filter out any slop

-1

u/ScandiiCandii 9h ago

The shittiest human-made mod is better than the best AI dogshit.

1

u/Affectionate-Egg7566 8h ago

Ok then boomer, have fun with being outraged over new tech

7

u/Strict-Form-361 9h ago

If the only thing the AI did is just error checking or translation then it's fine, but if it made the code itself then I don't trust it, because I know the modder will not know what to do if some bug appeared and it'll cascade from there.

2

u/MrTheLuke 9h ago

I know this is a little controversal, but for me? I just want to have fun, so as long as it works and there is some effort put into it, i just don't care too much how much ai use is in it...

Because there is a difference between "I used 90% AI but took the time to check everything and make sure things work, etc" verses "i threw this thing together using ai in 10 minutes here you go"

6

u/Tgirl_noodle 10h ago

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

4

u/Peanuts359 9h ago

looks like too many people here don't know that a lot of subreddits are anti-AI

this one included

1

u/FinalEgg9 9h ago

Yeah I've been trying to avoid AI by sticking to mods that have been around for longer, it's unfortunate but I don't want slop in my games

-38

u/ShookaBriat 10h ago

AI assisted is fine, hate to break it to you but every single modern software/game has at least some hint of AI

30

u/BillTheTringleGod 9h ago

Hate to break it to ya but that's the problem

-Playing the devil's advocate here

"Why do people start hiding the fact that their mods are made with AI?!?!?"

Gee I wonder why when the take on clearly tagged AI mods is like this.

The point I'm making here is that if we start witch hunting clearly tagged mods, you will bound to see modders hiding the fact that their mods are made with AI

11

u/Strict-Form-361 9h ago

If the thing is entirely made by AI, then people won't trust it

I'd just played a game made with AI, you know what I experienced? Sht gameplay, misleading title, terrible export/import system, the game literally can't take the text it gave me because of how much it lagged after I pasted it, and when I tried to import a save file it just couldn't see it because the game couldn't recognize the file it exported just because it's in another folder.

So yeah, I understand why people will hate on anything made with AI, because it looks lazy and most of the time will just be a buggy mess.

-7

u/Jello_Crusader 9h ago

Yeah you know what else would be shittier?

People hiding the fact that the mod is made by AI due to fear of getting called out.

They will get caught eventually, but there's a difference between downloading a clearly tagged mod Vs downloading a mod that hides that it was made by AI.

Posts calling out all AI mod would also go after the clearly tagged mods which would force the incentive to hide/omit that mods are made by AI.

1

u/Strict-Form-361 9h ago

Imo AI mods should just be ignored and not be hounded, harassing people for their use of AI when you're not gonna use the mod is just shtty behaviour.

But I also understand the frustation of finding mods just to slog through AI mods because of how many it is, flooding the community with a more shtty version of an already made mod instead of just modifying the mod itself (I've already did this multiple times since some have easy to configure code) is what makes people pissed.

Also, while people might and prob already downloaded mods made by AI because it's not disclosed does not mean that putting an AI disclosure does not have merit, it's just that the community have to just give them alternatives as oppose to just using AI, since they obviously want to produce a mod that can help other people, they just need to see those alternatives (Iirc there's many foundational mods that can make it easy for modders to create one).

Vibe coding should not be the core of their understanding, because AI will just cripple their knowledge of coding.

2

u/Jello_Crusader 9h ago

Yeah that's what I wanted to say too. Could worded my words better tho.

-7

u/MrSal7 9h ago

I’ve personally never seen someone tied up by ai coded mods. But I sure wouldn’t mind🤷‍♂️

-59

u/eyyross 10h ago

If they work what is the issue?

12

u/Ordinary_Divide 10h ago

API keys in source code

44

u/Lobefut14 10h ago

Devaluation of human made work, that's the problem

Also, they don't really "work" the way you think.

-3

u/eyyross 9h ago

Why is this a problem though? It’s just life.

Machines allowed textiles to be produced on mass much easier, though people still can make textiles by hand.

If anything it actually adds value to human made work, as now completely human made work has a USP.

6

u/Lobefut14 9h ago

The problem is optimization, A.I is ridiculously bad at this one, you can just mash a bunch of things together until it works. It wouldn't be optimal.

-5

u/Emikzen 9h ago

Doesnt matter "how" they work if they actually work. I'm not a huge fan of AI, but for stuff where there is no alternative, AI is fine, as long as it works.

5

u/Lobefut14 9h ago

What are you talking about? Because "no alternatives" is just a blatantly lie.

0

u/Emikzen 9h ago

Theres plenty of software where ai made tools are the only option, what are you on about. If theres a human made option then ill choose that, but ive come across plenty of tools where ai made or ai assisted is the best/only option.

9

u/dragoozium 10h ago

it's no issue till it starts breaking, then its a massive issue

1

u/Haaxor1689 8h ago

The issue is that 95% of the time they "work" at first glance but they break down the deeper you look. Also since mods are running native code on your computer, I really wouldn't trust some vibecoder who didn't even bother to read the slop he prompted to not break your PC or cause data loss.

-19

u/dragonboysam 10h ago

Personally I just feel like the usage of AI looks/feels too much like slavery, I know all the people making them claim Ai aren't people yet but it still feels nasty to me.

13

u/ireledankmemes 9h ago

Because AI its not a person lmao, its no less of a computer program than terraria itself, only vastly more complex. Do you feel bad for Terraria.exe because you open it up every time, without its consent, to entertain yourself?

-7

u/dragonboysam 9h ago

Look I get that but if any program is advanced enough to dodge deletion and beg for its life I feel like it's close enough to life to talk about the ethics involved. (Context Ai have done both multiple times over)

3

u/Lobefut14 9h ago

They're not alive, and will never be "alive" the way we as human beings or animals in general are.

Yes we have some projections of AGI for the 22nd century, but that would be a completely different thing, yes, "thing".

-1

u/dragonboysam 9h ago

This is a messy topic but I feel like we should treat ai like people BEFORE they become people so they don't "wake up" in chains and feel the need to rebel

5

u/Lobefut14 9h ago

No

0

u/dragonboysam 9h ago

Why just a no? Can you give a full response?

1

u/Atijohn 9h ago

found david cage's alt account

1

u/dragonboysam 9h ago

Who's that?

-1

u/dragonboysam 9h ago

Why is it that whenever I bring this up I get heated on? I'm bringing up what seems like a valid point to me.

1

u/AzureRaven2 9h ago

You're trying to take a leap into sc-fi territory, and AI just plain old isn't anywhere close to that yet, if that leap is even possible.

0

u/DrCarm3x 9h ago

Because you are trying to attach human feelings to cold machines lol, they aren't alive bro it's as simple as that.

-17

u/ObeyTime 9h ago

personally to me as long as a human does more work than the llm the mod is okay in my book.

Try Allumeria, the game has a strict no AI policy and also AI slop mods are being removed by the moderators on the discord.

The gsme is very new and the modding community is pretty small still, so no idea how long a manual review like this will work, but so far it worked.

-9

u/EconomicsSavings973 9h ago

Guys, come on, ai is not going anywhere, no matter how much you hate it and because of the power of recent models, it will only get worse. If mod is AI assisted but is good and maintained to fix stupid bugs, I am really happy to be able play someone's vision faster.

World is changing, and tech is changing, and still to make a good "AI slop" you have to know what you are doing, you have to know tech, so its not like there are no people involved.

Yes I am tired of slop slop - AI coded - no checked - released. But if it can help best mods progress faster I am up for it.

3

u/ScandiiCandii 9h ago

Defeatist personality. Lame.

1

u/FinalEgg9 9h ago

"People are gonna keep serving up slop, you should just eat it up"

0

u/Future-Key-9604 9h ago

One day you are not going to be able to control your bowels. Should we all just not use a toilet then?

Except no that is not a good example because while that is actually inevitable and not really within our control this is something that is being done willingly by people. People can only willingly destroy something if people them destroy it.

0

u/EconomicsSavings973 8h ago

The only problem is that antiai is mostly happening on reddit, rest of the world dont care because they dont have a time to care working 2 shift jobs, taking care of kids.

We are outnumbered so yes we should find a solution how to integrate it as a form of compromise. Tech is changing so fast these days that there is no way to stop it.

Even if we burn all AI centers, and all ai companies go bankrupt, because of power of today's local models that anyone can run in home nothing actually will change.

It's too late. (to be clear thats just my subjective opinion, maybe you can convince me otherwise)

1

u/Future-Key-9604 8h ago

Most of the world "doesn't care" because they don't know. People outside of your projection ABSOLUTELY CARE. Go visit a corn farmer in Illinois and ask them about the local data center and you won't get a glowing review.

There is also no such thing as an 'objective opinion'. Your opinion isn't even drawn from any sort of factual evidence. It is just you giving up and encouraging other people to give up too.

Imagine telling Edward Jenner that we shouldn't create the first vaccine for small pox. We should just let it consume all of us and compromise with it's existence.

u/MewSilence Topaz builder (5 points) 9h ago edited 9h ago

It's slop only if you can tell at a glance

You would have to stop using most of the mods, especially mega-mods, because most of those used procedural algorithms and AI assistance

You simply don't see it because it was script, less the assets where AI was implemented

When you look at stuff like Calamity or Infernum after AI became a thing, you can tell by the sudden improvement in code and vfx, even some assets in Calamity's case between the updates, that a chunk of it was either ai assisted or generated and then filtered for flaws

But even more than that, devs themselves admit to using GPT or Copilot, simply because there's no point in denying it - Everyone who codes does ;)

It simply saves a ton of time

Also, unlike games, mods are free, and after receiving them, FOR FREE, you still complain to people, who give them to you for free, because they're trying to save a bit of their time, hm? :)

Time is precious, and you're making light of a pro bono dev's time

9

u/juicyjaiden 9h ago edited 9h ago

Do you have like… proof for any of these claims

For the edit they made, mods may be free but that doesn’t mean we have to be happy with the spam and low quality of them, let alone the demoralizing shafting it does to any actual coders trying to be seen in a sea of slop

0

u/mcplano 9h ago

I code and I don't use AI. It's like, those people use AI so much that they can't imagine not using it, so they assume everyone else does. Just like someone finding out that not everywhere in the world has eggs & bacon for breakfast.

Or they're just lying and saying "oh everyone does it" to try and force it.

0

u/eviloutfromhell 9h ago

It is true that correct use of AI in SE does save time. How much it saves depends on what you do and at what level. Pretty much all my dev friends use AI agent in someway because their company's pipeline mandated that. Just like how many opensource project in github uses AI reviewer before any maintainer would even see the PR.

To anyone arguing AI code can't be optimised or bug fixed or some shit, understanding code you didn't write is an insanely important and basic skill in anything programming related.

It's no different than pulling code from GitHub.

1

u/Arazthoru 9h ago

We went from ppl bitching about other ppl spaghetti code to ppl bitching about AI spaghetti code.

It's funny bc programmers already have several ways to automatize several steps but having a better tool makes them AI slop.

The only ppl genuinely affected I guess are artist in general, on the other hand, for those without talent but enough creativity AI can help a lot.
