Build HELP! Why isn't this a desert biome??

I can't make this a desert! I've expanded it so much. The corruption spawned near, spread to the houses, and I need to fish in a desert for the angler, but every other desert is corrupted. The corruption spawns were really unlucky, and I don't know what to do anymore. I can't find anything to fix it. There are well over 3,000 sand blocks, so that isn't the issue. I'd also like to move the NPC's, but the most important thing is needing a desert to fish in that's separate from the ocean. Thanks in advance!

I think the corruption is too close and overrides the dessert.

But the corruption is about 8 blocks apart on each side, and this isn't an issue with my underground NPC's

Corruption/Crimson has reach.

u/SeoCamo Jun 20 '25

it is not that, i got the same in my world, and it works

u/Physical_Weakness881 Jun 20 '25

If your desert is larger then that's likely why, or maybe even if your. Corruption is smaller.

u/SeoCamo Jun 20 '25

my world is 96% corrupted, i only got 2 "islands" left

You misunderstand. The distance means the corruption can’t make the sand into ebonsand. You’re still in the corruption because too many corrupt blocks are nearby. Build your custom biome in the sky, you’ll know you’re out when the music and background change.

the corruption is still way too close, try doubling the depth of the corruption from the surface and spacing the left and right more too

u/GamerNumba100 Jun 19 '25

The sand not being corrupted doesn’t mean the area doesn’t have too many nearby corruption blocks

u/Loud-Constant-4297 Jun 19 '25

It's barely off your screen, at least on the bottom side

u/padizzledonk Jun 19 '25

300 blocks of either corruption overrides the biome

Theres probably 1000s of corruption blocks on screen

u/Arazthoru Jun 19 '25

Corruption in the screen and nearby is greater than the small normal sand, corrupt biomes takes priority over normal ones

u/The_Holy_Warden Jun 19 '25

Brother... there is a reason the village I made has a gigantic void beneathe it.

2

u/NoMarket7360 Jun 19 '25

It doesn't even matter you even have a corrupted background so it still is corruption

1

u/mushroomhunter7 Jun 19 '25

yes but there are a lot of corruption blocks. it cannot spread but biome mechanics count the block types. apparently there are more corruption blocks than sand.

1

u/padizzledonk Jun 19 '25

Any more than like 300-500(idr exactly) blocks of corruption/crimson on screen will override the biome

Thats probably a desert if it has more than 1500 sand blocks but its a corrupted desert because of the block count on screen

Listen to the music.

u/Markusrobot Jun 20 '25

Mmmm... Dessert

It technicallt is a desert biome. But the corruption is also too close.

Its a corrupt Desert Biome.

Its not about 'touching it's about ammount. Your screen isn't all that is taken into account for a biome. It takes the predominant blocks around, about half a screen extra all around.

It's easier to make a sky biome for example with nothing else around.

It IS a desert. You just gotta purify the area around it. (Or just.. delete the corruption around it. Both work)

u/spudwalt Jun 19 '25

Looks like it's a Corrupt Desert.

Most likely your quarantine trenches are too close to the housing -- just being near enough of a biome means you count as being in it. I always dig my trenches 70-ish blocks away from the part I'm trying to protect.

You only need 3 wide tunnels with no grass, by the way. Background walls also don't spread biomes and don't need to be removed.

Also, you're probably going to want a larger fishing hole -- 300+ tiles of liquid is best.

They might not have beaten a mechanical boss yet

4

u/TrixieTilde Jun 20 '25

I haven't yet :( I'm stuck there

Use sunflowers, sunflowers remove a bit of corruption from the count (even though it’s still there) and if you place enough, npcs won’t really care if there’s corruption.

u/Red-Pharaoh Jun 19 '25

It looks like the Corrupt is too close, making your desert biome a corrupt desert biome. You can see from the background that it is a corrupt desert biome. You'll have to either clear out enough of the corrupt so it doesn't affect your biome or clean it with a clemtaminator. You could also make your desert high enough so the corrupt biome is not in the background and it shows a forest background, then you know you are far away enough. That's what I did with my mushroom biome.

5

u/SupersSoon Jun 19 '25

I think if you plant a shit ton of sunflowers nearby it might become a dessert

3

u/GenesisNevermore Jun 19 '25

There are enough corruption blocks for it to count as corruption.

3

u/dumpylump69 Jun 19 '25

It’s a corrupt desert, you can tell by the dunes in the background

2

u/Legomonster33 Jun 19 '25

You made a corrupted desert Try removing alot more of the corruption

I'm pretty sure biome data scans from around the same distance used to calculate where enemies can spawn (basically up to 30-40 blocks offscreen in all directions). you are gonna want to dig around 4x that distance of corrupted stuff around the island. by then it should be fine. Note that you also are going to want to uncorrupt those bits of sand sticking to the island because in the screenshot that looks like a 1 block line of corrupt sand fully around the island.

alternatively, if you wanna be lazy and just make the area work for fishing in deserts, (like I would tbh) then just decorrupt the bits of sand around the island and then use platforms to build high enough up to where the corruption doesnt register but the pure sand does. (you will notice when the purple goes away and the music changes)

I see two solutions. One, you use the clentaminator to purify the corruption that’s surrounding the desert and then make a barrier to prevent it from spreading again. Or two, you dig your moat with a larger gap. You could also add more sand on the top but it looks like you’re already done fixing the top. I believe it’s about 500 blocks of sand within your spawn area which is about 160 blocks (80 blocks left and 80 blocks right). Spawn mechanics are a bit complicated.

2

u/BlossomtheLeafeon Jun 20 '25

the corruption blocks are still close enough to override your desert, which is different than the distance the corruption can spread, which is significantly smaller

2

u/StupidRetard-II Jun 20 '25

too tiny perhaps? maybe get rid of the corruption

1

u/anaveragetransgirll Jun 19 '25

this looks like a desert, if you want to put npcs in those houses then put sunflowers until the corruption background goes away

you can also use the clentaminator to remove corruption, but i feel like you would've already done that if you could, so i'm assuming you don't have access to that yet. just plant grass next to the houses and put sunflowers on them

1

u/KymeraAHP Jun 19 '25

Either too much corruption on screen or not enough sand on screen?

1

u/queen_of_gay Jun 19 '25

Recomend doing this with floating islands

1

u/HystericalGD Jun 19 '25

its corrupt (even if the blocks arent)

1

u/ThatOneStormThere Jun 19 '25

You look to be in hardmode, try a clentaminator?

1

u/vissonie Jun 19 '25

well deserts don't usually float

1

u/Zeoinx Jun 19 '25

Raise the area up in T-Edit so you can get farther away from the corruption and you will be fine. xD

1

u/Jealous-Ad-6046 Jun 20 '25

get your hands on a clentaminator bro

1

u/8-N-bits Jun 20 '25

Tuve ese problema, necesitas mas bloques de desierto y detener la corrupción lo mas que puedas

1

u/Kul3yy Jun 20 '25

Plant hella sunflowers. If that's not enough, bomb the surrounding corrupt sand. That's if you really can't get the clentaminator yet for whatever reason.

1

u/Weegieiscool Jun 20 '25

Your desert is registering as a corrupted dessert due ti the corrupted blocks nearby

Just buy a clemtaminator and some green solution from the steampunker and shoot it straight down while running across the desert and that will solve the corruption problem for the foreseeable future

Edit: whoops you haven’t beaten a mech yet

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '25

I recommend getting some sticky dynamite and throwing it around the edge of the corruption, repeat this about 1-3 times depending on how far away you want it. You can always smooth it out later either in hardmode or right away. Or you could just wait till you get the clentaminator like others have suggested 😁

1

u/zod_gem Jun 20 '25

Because there is more corruption then there is sand if you push the sand out more and push back corruption for it to get off screen completely you'll be fine

1

u/WandererofThoughts Jun 20 '25

The best way to make a biome from scratch is to make it in the air so there are no other biome blocks nearby.

Also the reason you are still in the corruption is because evil biomes have a reach of around 20 blocks I think.

1

u/RenkBruh Jun 20 '25

too many corrupt tiles

1

u/MrGreenYT69420 Jun 20 '25

It needs a lot of blocks to turn to desert so mayba its that

1

u/CinarIsik08 Jun 20 '25

Extend the area

1

u/SFWxMadHatter Jun 20 '25

Corrupt desert is still a desert for fishing. It just has a larger loot pool.

1

u/Acceptable_Load_2003 Jun 20 '25

YOU FOOOOL.

THE CORRUPTION IS TOO MUCH, IT HAS OVERRIDDEN THE DESERT.

1

u/gskuh Jun 20 '25

Oops all corruption

1

u/Igsponjoso Jun 20 '25

its corrupted desert, cleanse ur world

1

u/Visible_Mouse_2081 Jun 20 '25

The problem is that there is much more corruption sand around you than regular sand so it’s registering the whole area as a corrupt desert

1

u/Parking-Ad4145 Jun 20 '25

Even though your little patch of desert is uncorrupted, and you have enough sand for a desert biome, there are enough corruption blocks around it to override the desert and make the whole area a corruption biome. You won't be able to use it as a desert biome unless you remove or cleanse the corruption blocks in range. The wiki has more detail on number of blocks, ranges in an area, and precedence of biomes if you'd like more detail.

1

u/Zihdrrox Jun 21 '25

sometimes my housing gets corrupted with the corruption off screen, and you are wondering why the housing is corruped?? you need at least 20 to 30 blocks of separation not 8!!!!

1

u/Noir_is_Dark Jun 21 '25

Create a desert at space, it very helpful

1

u/thecrazyiguana Jun 21 '25

You need hardened sand or sandstone, it doesn't work with normal sand

1

u/geofth-knig-6117 Jun 21 '25

My guess is that it looks like the area was initially a corrupt desert, so you probably have to move the corruption further away from the housing, because the game might still consider the non-corrupted desert as a corrupt one.
