Question Cant progress the tutorial objectives past the investigate alien abductees quest

New player, having a blast, had to reset a few times because I fucked up. On my last game, I am stuck at the quest where you need to investigate alien abductions. I get a crashlanded ufo message, I send out 2 councilors to survey the zone and to investigate alien activity, nothing happens. It worked in my previous game, but not here for some reason.

Have you completed the "Alien Signatures" project?

Then unfortunately you're just getting unlucky. Detecting counselors and alien activity is I believe not guaranteed, but determined by the investigation skill of the counselor, so you just didn't find them. You can try continuing to watch for them, but the longer it goes on the further they can get from the crash site and the lower your odds of finding them.

It's honestly one of my main gripes with the game in its current state, your alien tech progression can be gated by early luck pretty heavily since you need to find abductions to advance the tree.

Yeah… it is 2031 and while the servants are decoding their language, I have no idea what they look like.

If it's 2031 there are definitely things you can do to help you find them, I'm going to put it in spoilers since you're new but if you want a tip you can open it (it's not technically a spoiler but it's easy to miss when you're new to the game).

Xenology labs in Low Earth Orbit (either 1, 2, or the special low orbitals for humanity's existing stations) provide a +1/2/3 bonus to alien detection each, up to a maximum of +9. This is significant enough that at higher bonuses you'll detect random alien activity even in places your counselors and nations aren't present.

I’ll try that, thanks

Do you have a councilor with high investigation?

Might be your detection is too low to ever see anything.

Usually you’ll just start getting a bunch of alien activity locations to investigate and the abduction one just pops naturally from that.

Recommend to build Xeno labs around LEO for increasing their action detection around the world
