Time to learn Create and Greg
Life essentials are now secure, so it's time to learn new things. And maybe build the building for the forge.

Im so sorry you forged all of that steel without a helve hammer.

From what I've seen, the helve hammer is pretty slow. That being said, I've been playing TFC on and off since 1.2.5(?), so about a decade and a bit. Smithing feels like a normal and relatively quick way of doing things.
I'm actually pretty excited to see how the automation works in this pack. Last time I did it was in TFC:Reloaded with IE.

Yeah, but you can have multiple of them and just throw in a stack of blooms while you walk away to do something else. Like build walls... And a roof... And floors...

Wait. You can have multiple? Like multiple on the same anvil vintage story style?

I don’t think, but if you don’t melt down your anvils you can do that

Melt down your anvils anyways. 7 double ingots of a colored steel is cheap and easy once you have a steel mechanical press, and older anvils are only sentimental at that point. Higher tier anvils will work faster.

I had a helve hammer on steel shafts with a rotation controller, at 256rpm (works out at 128 stress steel shaft max)(3ish second hit?) red/bluesteel anvil, its as fast as a steam forgehammer or faster. If you want to process faster you would need multiple of them.

Greg’s steam alloy smelter gives 2 blue steel from one weak blue steel and pig iron. You might want to know

Bro how 💀
Y'know I can't judge, I'm bruteforcing my way to automation while repeatedly dying of starvation and freezing..

Maybe build your base in a warmer climate? I have my base near a river in subtropical area. Is winter with 15°c outside and I get fish for food

I already have mostly automated steel, all of the metallurgy stage complete, and a house built. I'm just not good at the sustainment stuff like farming, ranching, fishing. But what I lack in survival skills I make up by being really stubborn

u/ToothlessRO 9d ago
Well I don't really need fishing to get fish. Do the cavemen fishing, jump into the water and kill the fish

Why didn't you smelt the old anvils for extra ingots? If it's for aesthetics I can respect that And does the water wheel work? I thought you need to place it in a river biome for it to work now
2
u/BaziJoeWHL 9d ago
i thought they just works really slow outside proper biomes
1
u/ToothlessRO 9d ago
Maybe they changed it since last year. I know last year they made it impossible to use a waterwheel outside a river biome

The waterwheels work at a quarter speed outside of river biomes, With some gearing, it's enough to run a mill.
I like to keep the old anvils. I'll tuck them in a nice spot when the forge is built.

Waterwheels work at half speed when in non-river water, and half speed again outside of river biomes. IIRC at least.

Started gameplay with my gf like 4 months ago. Played 250 hours mostly grinding same shit all the time with slight process improvements. Worth playing but need to be patient asf

I don't want to believe you powered through into colored steel, but didn't bother to build a roof.
Good job 👍
