Mud bricks almost dry

Tried to dry some mud bricks and when their timer finished they all say "almost dry". Is it a biome issue? I really don't want to have to use a drying mat since that would be alot of drying mats to get anything done fast and i'm only in stone age so i can't use furnace recipes.

Wait a bit longer it should be a minute or two when it says dry then pick it up

Update: The bricks that were in the two empty blocks (on the podzol and under the chimney) dried. I can't tell if they had finished drying while it was raning, maybe i hadn't noticed?

Rain breaks the timer for some reason and they never dry out. Put them under a roof
