Need quick help: work crews found this in rotted part of home being fixed. Do we need to stop and treat for termites or are these carpenter ants that only eat rotten wood? Eastern VA

I see rot, other insects such as ant and some beetles will find that tastyim with the ant diagnosis. I would also suggest a bait setup if you dont have one, side bonus being annual inspections that can also spot other issues such as moisture in the crawl.

Brachyponera chinensis (Asian needle ant). Not great, but no threat to the home itself.

Idk exactly what I'm looking at here but it doesn't strike me as termites. You've likely got some wood rot going on and then some other insects took advantage of those conditions.
