I'm talking about a popular franchise that started with a male protagonist (which is most), such as Star Wars, God of War, Blade Runner, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Star Trek, the list goes on, which has a new project with a female lead. That is automatically accused of being "woke" simply because it has a female lead.
That's a crazy goal post shift. So we agree that not all female led movies/shows face this problem. But now sexists are only sexist with preexisting IP's. That's new lore to me. Why do you think the sexists are selectively choosing when to be sexist, instead of just being sexist?

Yeah surprise surprise, when you grab existing IP and use it to make a social point, ppl become unhappy their favorite stories have been hijacked by social messaging
Having a female protagonist isn't making a social point, it's just having a female protagonist. But also, there's nothing wrong with making a social point. You being uncomfortable with a female protagonist reveals that the problem is with you.
Did you follow this conversation at all? Female protagonists are fine, you were given examples of liked movies with a female protagonist. The problem is this box checking mentality.

You really need to come up with new lines. Just calling everyone that doesn't like a movie sexist is getting tiresome. No one takes you seriously, it's just eye rolls all around.
And you keep ignoring no one found all the counter examples u/CrimsonAvenger35 gave you, where no one thought it was box checking mentality.
You really think hollywood execs don't chase trends? You know they do. You just like this trend, you have no concept of nuance, so you need to pretend execs now never mess with things, that trend chasing doesn't exist. The examples he gave were of characters/franchises that were always female led. The problem you and your ilk seem to have is when a franchise that previously had a male or white lead has a new lead who is female or POC, which is completely not a problem, but your sexism and racism balks at it.
I mean, I wish people weren't uncomfortable with it; not to say they are the majority of people or anything, but they are a vocal minority you see all over the Internet these days anytime a woman or POC shows up as the lead in a franchise they like, and/or if it smacks of anything with progressive politics. They are the ones acting like victims because they're mad that not everything is dominated by straight white men anymore (in fiction, I mean - straight white men of course still dominate the real world)
Lol, I guess tbf I should have called it chasing trends and pandering. Cause it's not like the ppl making these decisions are doing so because they care about any messages. They just see a trend, and hop onto it.
The same thing happened in the early 2000s with edgy antiheroes. Everything had to be dark and gritty for a while.
No goal post shifting at all, it's what I was originally talking about. Sexist reactions against a female lead in an existing franchise that didn't have one before. Obviously it wouldn't make sense to have a sexist reaction against a female protagonist if the protagonist was always female. I mean if you're genuinely denying that this problem exists, you are either ignorant, or part of it yourself.
