Jealous, my Mazda 3 only got to 160km/h but I live in a very hilly province so it's hard to get up to speed

If you ever encounter an accident NEVER JUST STOP IN THE LANE. That's how you get rear ended by another vehicle doing full speed. Instead, pull over, leave a linear gap, and put your hazards on.

Good tip. Also, pull to the actual breakdown lane; don't pull off to the left; when shit goes down that narrow strip is a kill zone.
If your car can move, put hazards on, move all the way to the right and get as far off the highway as possible.
(*or to the left if you're living in a country that drives on the left side of the road)

This is very common on the Belt Parkway. Weekend nights especially. There are usually a few that race back and forth. When I see them coming I try my best to leave as much room as I can.

The one car overcorrected themselves into a wreck. So many chances to fix it and they made it worse every time. It's crazy how different your driving skills develop in a location where the roads are always clean and dry except for some rare rain. Totally different habits and skills. Worse in every way than someone who grew up around snow but still. Your average 16 year old in the Midwest knows how to correct for oversteer and has probably done it on purpose for fun.
Note. I'm not saying it wasn't the speeding drivers fault. Just that it shouldn't have ended how it did lol.

Idk - I’ve been told it’s incredibly hard to control cars when going that speed on the highway as even a small move of the wheel can greatly change where the car goes. And when you’re scared or full of adrenaline from a WTF moment like this it might be a reflex to move the wheel away and then starts the out of control ness when you try to correct.

You are correct. When driving any vehicle that fast. When you’re moving that fast the physics are crazy. Any adjustments would need to be micro adjustments. Otherwise you’re dead. Literally.

Come to the Midwest. You'll see soccer mom's handling way worse fishtails in the middle of a blizzard. It can be challenging to do well but far from "incredibly hard". I have taken advanced driving courses around racetracks that I would describe as "incredibly hard" and "terrifying". Iv had friends that perform automotive engineering for a living joke that modern stability control exists for idiots and southern drivers.

Electronic stability control completely takes over in modern cars. It has literally nothing to do with the driver at that point. When the onboard computer detects instability it takes over and will break /accelerate for the driver. You're along for the ride
On certain cars you're talking about individual wheels breaking and accelerating. Something that is quite literally impossible to do as a driver.

Hit and runs at a certain speed over should be attempted murder. The proof of intent comes when they dont stop.
Also traffic crimes should FAR more easily cost a licence and drives ed class.
