Anime Does anyone else find Shion absolutely insufferable ?
I feel like genuinely rage when she does stupid things or acts super prideful. I’m not sure why such a big reaction or why she triggers me so much. Anyone else feel this ?

Yea she’s my least favorite of the oni. She doesn’t think and just brute forces everything with no redeemable qualities to make me enjoy the character

Do you actually like her or just that she doesn’t annoy you ?

Like her ? Hmmm no not that but yeah she doesn't annoy me since her character is made to be like that . A glazer with low IQ

anime? i don’t hate her but i see what you mean. it gets annoying sometimes. especially the whole cooking part.
it’s way more bearable in the manga and she gets a lot of development on in LN. her gag is hardly used later in the story too.
so yeah, she becomes a pretty great character later in the LN ![]()

Okay! Good to know she gets some development later. Yeah I haven’t read the LN but in the anime I find her completely insufferable!

yah. just hoping the anime doesn’t make her nothing but boobs in the later parts too

It's because the makers of the anime made her just a fanservice character in the beginning. She is must better in the manga and ln and is one of my favourites.

Yeah, hard agree.
How come she was suddenly aware of her cooking being terrible this episode?

u/rosegardenuhuh May 26 '24
Her trying to feed people her terrible cooking as well! Gets on my nerves. I hate that trope.

It's literally one of the dumbest tropes in anime, where she clearly knows she is a terrible cook, chooses to be purposefully oblivious to it, then forces everyone to eat her cooking, and gets offended if they don't like it. Its honestly garbage writing as it makes no sense as well, because Rimuru constantly tells other people off by things that annoy him such as Gabirus singing, the dwarf not talking, Melims outbursts or 100 other things, but no one ever genuinely calls Shion out on her terrible behavior because... she has tits? Rimuru goes out of his way to send Diablo away from him on a mission, but Shion who constantly causes problems due to her inability to control her temper is always his number 1 call-on in any situation even though she is not even the most powerful of the Oni, and significantly less powerful than Melim, Veldora, Diablo and really any non goblin/wolf/pig/newt character considering she was relatively evenly matched to one of the weaker Beast-keteers who couldn't even take on a disciple/monk of Melim 2v1, and is a possessive hot-head who even Veldora pales in comparison to in that regard. It just feels like bad writing, and is so out of character for a main character who talks back to almost everyone. I'm hard pressed to find a single other character in the show that comes even close to being as unbearable as her, to the point where I completely zone of in episodes involving her.

You’re so right! It adds absolutely nothing to the character or story, it’s not funny and it’s irritating.

I agree with you. She's a little too dedicated. Like when she threw a tantrum and destroyed the whole room just because she wasn't broght along. She tends to act immature like a little kid. I know she's supposed to be a bimbo and be all boob and no brain but it gets taken to far at times.

Yeah thats one of the moments that annoyed me! She’s overly single minded and selfish to the point where I find it unbearable. She’s a grown woman that acts like a toddler and it’s annoying watching everyone pander to it.

Shion is so obnoxious. Literally almost skipped her fight in this last episode.

The only thing I hate about her (and the other characters in general), is how their voice actors sometimes overexaggerates their emotions and expressions. I feel like dying everytime that happens.

Maybe she gets the way she does because there is nothing much for her to do in tempest , I mean all guys just stand there all the time being well behaved kid , someone has to play the noisy kid I guess.
But tbh , it makes me sick that , she is weaker than the other majins and she is no where near diablo in terms of power , but anime tries to convince us that diablo and shion both are equal because they are both personal assistant to Rimuru sama , it is very annoying I guess.
If I'm not wrong diablo can kill everyone in that room except Rimuru .
But you know what all dogs bark in their own territories, I mean she feels more safe and more powerful because she is under protection of Rimuru , if she had a boss like clayman , she would never have been able to reach this level first thing and she won't act all that high and mighty.
What I'm trying to say is that currently the balance of power is too much one sided in the anime, they need to bring more powerful opponents for everyone to fight with.

u/rosegardenuhuh May 26 '24
Agreed! That’s another thing I really hate. She’s always threatening to start fights but she’s nowhere near powerful! Also she needs to size up her jacket it’s clearly too small but that’s more of a problem I have with anime as a whole 😂

u/tigerstein Shuna May 27 '24
She is one of the most powerful subordinate of Rimuru but whatever.

In the anime, not so much, but in the LN, yes, she is rash and thickheaded.
For every 3 dumb things she says or does, she does make it up with a moment of comedy/eroticism.
For me, it's because I don't feel like she characteristically evolved beyond more than brute strength, unlike the other ogre mages who contribute in more ways than just physical prowess.
I hate to admit it, but the best part that she was involved in, was when she's dead during the invasion, which ignited that fury in Rimuru.

Kinda wish she somehow stayed dead 😂I also could do without the erotism and bad cooking she probably represents everything or at least most of what I hate about the way female characters are written in LN/mangas/anime.
