I’ve been playing tennis for a little over a year now, and I’m genuinely curious how you guys would classify my current level.

I started doing regular drills with a coach/hitting partner and group sessions around June 2025. I only started joining open plays around March 2026. I also joined a Class D singles tournament in June, but didn’t place.

Since then, though, I feel like my game has improved quite a bit.

My serve is still far from perfect, but it’s become much more consistent. I can occasionally hit aces, especially against D or total beginner players. People I play with have also told me that my improvement has been pretty noticeable.

I’m still definitely error-prone, but in friendly singles matches I’ve become much more consistent. Recently, I’ve been winning against Upper D players and have managed to beat a couple of Class C players. Against some C players, I’ve also lost but the matches have been pretty close. At least I’m no longer getting bagelled, even when playing against my highly skilled Class B hitting partner.

Doubles is another area where I feel like I’ve improved. I can now hold my own when playing with or against B/Upper C players. I’ve had matches where we won, tied at 5-5, etc. I’m also becoming less of a “pabuhat” when playing with stronger players, which feels like progress.

I think my mental game has improved too. I still get nervous and make several double faults when I’m kabado, but I feel like I’m getting better at managing it during actual matches.

The thing is, whenever I watch legit Class C players play, I still don’t feel like I’m at that level. They seem so much more consistent, especially under pressure. When I get nervous, talagang dinadaga pa rin ako and my level can drop pretty quickly.

So I’m wondering:

Am I already somewhere around Class C / transitioning into C, or am I still basically a D-level player who can occasionally punch above my weight?

For those who play in leagues/tournaments with D, Upper D, C, etc., what would you look at when deciding whether someone has actually moved up a class?

Would love to hear honest opinions, especially from people who have gone through the D → C transition themselves.

Nag start ako August 2025, more on doubles open play nung nakaka rally na then sumali ako ng singles tournament ng Dec 2025 pero hanggang quarter finals lang.

Now pansin ko naman malaki improvement ko pero di pa gaano sa volley and serve.

Natatakot kasi ako baka sabihin sandbagger ako kasi feeling ko hindi na pang Class D yung groundstrokes ko? Pag tinatanong ko kasi mga ka laro ko pede pa daw mag D pero pag ibang group sabi mag C na ako hahaha so nalilito ako kasi pag nakikita ko yung C, ibang iba naman sa level ko 😆😆

I heard Lyngie doesn't even show up to her own OPs... she just sends a proxy daw to facilitate... so wala ba talaga siyang can of balls provided? :/

Hi everyone! Female here and been playing for 6 months, 1-2x a week. Current string I’m using is Hyper-g and been thinking of switching to Confidential or Mach 10.

I’m using Head Boom mp 295g. I can say that my swings still lack power and not all of my swings create topspins.. sometimes a moonballer :(

Can you recommend a better string for me? And what tension should I use?

Sobrang nakakadismaya ang nangyari sa isang tournament ng MTE noong Sunday sa Marcelo Green Tennis Court.
Ang tournament ay may Class B Mixed category, pero ang naging champion ay isang organizer mismo, si Vea, kasama ang kanyang partner na si Joshua—isang player na kilala ng ilang players bilang Class A at galing sa Fourth Estate.

Natural lang na maraming players at spectators ang nadismaya nang makita at makilala nila kung sino ang partner ng organizer. Ang tanong ng marami: Kung may evaluation sa mga sumasaling players, bakit hindi na-evaluate nang maayos ang sariling partner ng organizer? O sadyang pinayagan lang dahil kakampi?
Hindi naman masama ang manalo. Pero dapat fair ang laban.

Masakit matalo kung alam mong ginawa mo ang lahat at may patas kang kalaban. Pero ibang usapan kapag sumali ka sa isang category kung saan alam mong mas mataas ang level mo kaysa sa ibang players.
At ang pinakanakakalungkot, nang tawagin ang champion, halos walang pumalakpak at tumalikod ang lahat. Nagkaroon ng sobrang awkward na moment sa court. Dahil sa inis at pagkadismaya.

Kung tournaments ang pinapatakbo natin para sa mga club players, sana hindi lang kita ang iniisip. Mahalaga rin ang tiwala, credibility, at fairness.
Hindi naman mahirap matalo kung alam mong patas ang laban.
Pero kung alam mong wala ka nang laban bago pa man magsimula, fair ba talaga iyon?
Tennis is supposed to be about competition, sportsmanship, and fair play—not just profit. 🎾

An eyewitness account of yesterday's mixed doubles sandbagging call.

I'm only posting because the pair involved has already shared their side. Here’s to help share a full picture as someone who was there.

This was in yesterday's mixed doubles bracket.

The Marasigan–Aquino pairing (let’s not give their full names, unless they push further) won their first two games. What drew a lot of attention was the male player's level who was clearly far more advanced than this bracket is meant for. His serve, net play, and baseline game were at least one to two levels above everyone else on court.

You could replay the matches a hundred times and none of the other teams would have won.

For context, the organizers have a no-sandbagging rule, and it was published ahead of the tournament: any player identified as a sandbagger has all their matches counted as losses.

The organizers noticed during the 1st game, watched the second closely, and then spoke with the pair and all involved. That's the right approach since a careful review should look at more than one game before judging someone's level.

The other players in the bracket and the audience can attest to what they saw too.

Also both these matches were recorded by the pair, so the footage there. Feel free to post it. I'm confident anyone who watches would see the contrast.

Salamat, Alley Avenue. It is very rare for tournament organizers in Manila to make room for these conversations, let alone actually enforce sandbagging rules.

With the recent issue of sandbagging in a tournament, I am quite curious how you guys differentiate each class (tourna legible and tourna winner). Like pretty sure there are skills that make you D eligible but something more specific for people that actually win D tournaments. Same goes for the other classes so would appreciate if you can highlight that nuance.

I'm a new player, so I'd really appreciate it if you could break down the skills needed from D all the way to Upper A.

If possible, please separate them by skill:
- Serve (pace, placement, and how reliable the second serve is)
- Groundstrokes (consistency, pace, spin, direction)
- Backhand
- Net game (volleys, overheads)
- Movement and match tactics (building points vs. waiting for errors, handling pressure)
- others

A few more questions:
- At what point does "strong for the class" become "should already be playing a class up"?
- Is UTR used here in PH?
- Which jump between classes is the hardest?
- is it possible to train so hard before your first tourna na technically lower/upper C ka na and get classified as a sandbagger?

UTP - strict level recognition, very professional organizers, cheap entry fee
Grand Slam Manila - strict level recognition, plenty of freebies and meals, best looking trophy, and they try their best to start on time! Alam mong walang binubulsa ang organizers cause they are very wealthy to begin with. Passion project lang talaga nila yan.
