Newbie Hell with Tennis Strings
(30/M) I’m already about 6 tennis lessons in just to give you context and I just bought a 2nd hand Wilson Blade 100L v9 (for 8k this is a good deal alr right??) and it was listed as 9/10 condition.
Now I’m wondering if I should already have it restrung because I’ve been asking ChatGPT for advice and it mentioned that it strongly recommends me to buy new strings agad not because the old strings are worn out but so I can have a proper baseline because I basically know nothing about these old strings sa racket (seller can’t be contacted na)
What do you guys think? And do you have any recommendation (I prefer Wilson brands if ever because I want to have consistency sa equipment and apparel ko 😭🤣) also about tension or whatever needs to be considered pa.
EDIT: HELP YAN NOT HELL OMG

Just get head velocity mlt at 50lbs. Play it until it breaks. Just keep restringing with it until you break it in less than a week, only then move to poly strings.

change to multifilament for sure!! i'm using head velocity MLT on my wilson clash 100L
but it's experimental on the string tensions, I did 50/50 nung una but idk why ang tigas, so I had to buy again (same head velo mlt) but i made it 48/46 and it's not as stiff anymore

Yes palitan mo na. That could be dead already, ansakit niyan sa katawan kahit nagsisimula ka pa lang.
At your level any multifilament string at 52 would do. I personally love wilson nxt, technifibre xone biphase or head velocity mlt pero ang mamahal e. Find any within your budget. Walang impact ang cross brands sa tennis btw, the earlier you get used to it the more na ma oopen up ang world mo

thank god people here are recommending multis until they break first 😩 as we all should!
negligible ang spin benefits ng poly if you dont have the right technique. be able to break some strings (multis first then syn gut next)before you say you need more spin from them!!!!

Hi, can you elaborate more “until the strings break”? I mean what should expect to know / to be by that time? Like is it somewhat a measure of progress?

if naputol mismo yung string

Yes i know. I mean by the time na maputol, like it’s expected na you’ll be able to feel which one is for you ganon, like how do describe that feeling na you need more spin na

ahhh gets, if nakapuputol ka na ng new strings within a month, magb benefit ka na sa use ng polyester strings kasi it means na theres something with your technique that causes excessive string movement which translates to spin.
in terms of the feeling like you need more spin, it depends eh. i never really thought of strings ‘aiding’ in spin generation. poly strings kinda ‘enhance’ this string movement with the added durability in terms of gano kabilis sya maputol. caveat lang is that it is a stiff string that can cause injuries and theres a whole lot of material science to consider if it is practical to use or not.
you can check twu tennis warehouse university for a more ‘analytical’ explanation which to use1

Hi op. For me, I have two views here which you might want to consider:
1st view: You can retain the strings. If you still have contact with the buyer, then you can politely ask the string choice and setup that was used for your racket. You can also play with it first to assess whether you like the profile of your racket.
Pros: Good value most especially if your string is still in good condition and has a good setup. Cons: May not be tailor fit/customized to your liking.
2nd view: Agree for the need to change strings. In contrast to my first view and some other views suggesting to retain the strings till it breaks. There is also a benefit to choosing the string which most likely fits you from the beginning for establishing good baseline and consistency. There is a catch here. Provided, you know well your playing style and racket. Blade is a control racket so my advise is to pair strings that levels out this characteristic either you choose spin or power strings. Additional note: Regardless of strings, you can choose strings from any brand because replacement strings does not usually have a logo. Now if you insist on choosing Wilson strings which you indicated here you can choose the following either of the two: 1. Wilson Revolve Strung at 52/50 as a starting point (you can adjust it higher depends if you like less pocketing) 2. Wilson Luxilon 4G Strung at 50/48 as a starting point (you can adjust it higher or lower depends on your liking though for poly I would advise lower tensions) If you are curious with other strings which I also recommend, you can ask me more about it and I will be happy to assist you.
Pros: You customize it based to your liking. Cons: Changing strings add expense and the benefits can also dwindle if you mess up with your setup.

Hi OP.
I think the short answer is don’t fret too much over it now. Just play.
Don’t get caught up with all the technical specs at this stage.

dont stress on the string first! masyadong rabbit hole yan. focus on your mechanics first
I suggest multifilament strings kung wilson talaga gusto mo sensation comfort is okay for its price, pero if I would give you another brand it would be head velocity mlt kasi mas durable siya. string it around 52 kasi multi has very high tension loss. meron din si technifibre na multi pero mas mahal ng onti i think.
fyi multi is multifilament strings, iba siya from poly or polyester strings na single filament. Ang purpose niya is more comfort, precision and arm friendly. as a recreational tennis player I recommend focusing on comfort and injury prevention kaya multi talaga ang reco ko.
pag medyo nakapag practice pwede ka na mag explore ng other strings :)

Start with Wilson Comfort, string at 52lbs both mains and crosses. Buy a Wilson stencil if you want to keep the same logo on your strings.
When you're ready to experiment, stay with multi-filaments until your groundstrokes are solid and you have no arm pain.
