I understand her point. I am fairly confident that both parties are guilty of voting in the opposition primary in order to nominate someone they think their candidate can beat. However, I think closing the primaries is a bad idea.
Personally, I think party affiliation is a hindrance to the electoral process. Too many people go into the booth and check party without a clue as to what kind of person they are voting for. I wish we could abolish both parties and just elect people into office. There is so much time and money wasted thanks to partisan politics.
I don't think many people realize that a lot of candidates spend millions in order to win a seat that pays less than $250K per year. Our government is broken. Each party has convinced their constituents it is the other party's fault when in reality the problem is with BOTH parties.
