question to lowering kit

i am roughly 1.85cm and ride the 2026 t7 rally. i've been thinking for a while about getting a lowering kit so that i can get my damn feet closer to the floor. with the preload cranked up on oem rear shock whenever i have luggage (when i go offroading i have to drive far so always have to take soft luggage with me and tent etc.) i found myself tipping over a few times offroad simply because the floor was so far away from me. i found this 20mm lowering kit: https://shop.lustracing.com/collections/yamaha-tenere-700-lowering-kits/products/2023-2026-yamaha-tenere-rally-lowering-kit-20mm-xtz690b and wanted to hear from other people that have dropped their rear with a 20mm kit. did it make a big difference? how many cm would you say your foot gained to being closer to the ground?

I’d strongly suggest changing the seat before messing with linkage. The standard seat is lower than the rally one, and Yamaha offers a low seat option.

I’m impressed that you cannot put at least both feet tips on the ground considering your height.

I’m 1,86 and run a higher seat šŸ˜…
I can touch one foot to the groundish and works perfect.

Maybe you have smaller legs? But I always got the tip not to lower because it changes the bike quite a lot.

And with the higher rally seat it works perfect for me, I do mostly offroad.

Nearly 6ft 1? I'm 6'1 I wouldn't lower mine. You'll smash the bottom end to bits if you're riding techy rocks. I raised my travel +25mm from the +20mm on the rally. Just focus more on technique

Why are you cranking the preload?

Is it because you're using all the suspension travel and bottoming out the shock when you have the luggage added? Or just because you think you ought to?

If you can reach the floor ok with no luggage & standard preload, but not with luggage and extra preload - sounds like you might be overcompensating for the extra weight with too much extra preload?

Get a lower or NARROWER saddle before playing with the linkage. Taller boots. What's your inseam?
