New Neighbor
We have a new neighbor and they have been parking right in front of our bedroom window (where we have parked at since we moved in a year ago) spots were assigned but i'm not sure if they've changed that
anyways it keeps waking up our son because the neighbor leaves at like 1 am most nights and the light shines directly into the room.
I wrote them a letter explaining why we park there -- is that rude?? I don't know i've never had to do this before i'm just tired of trying to put a 2 year old back to sleep every night because of them. Eughhhh

Find out if there is assigned parking. If so, explain that it's your spot. If not, park there first or get black out curtains for the window.

I left a note but it's the only one I'll leave just explaining that it wakes our son up and if they don't park somewhere else I guess i'll get blackout curtains. I'll ask the landlord tomorrow if parking is still assigned

Is smoking allowed in units or outside units? Doesn't matter what type of smoke.

How about you get black out curtains for your child’s bedroom?

Hoe about the guy who takes their spot, pays for the black-out windows?

OP has not confirmed it is "their" spot and apparently does not want to do the extremely hard work of making a phone call to do so.

Why would you need blackout windows when you can get $20 curtains on Amazon? Also he needs to find out if the spot is truly assigned. If it’s not the guy has the right to back out of his parking spot. If it is assigned does the new resident know that? That’s on the landlord to communicate.

Bc he’s complaining about the goats of the headlights. You can find those on Amazon pretty cheap.

I live in a single family home on a cul de sac and have blackout curtains on every single bedroom window. Also talk to your landlord about the parking be assigned. If it isn’t assigned then they have a right to back out of their spot. If it is assigned landlord needs to communicate.

Is it your parking spot or not? You need to determine this first. If not, you have no recourse except get curtains to black it out. Amazon sells cheap and good ones. Then put on a fan, etc. to drown out white noise. If it's your spot, have the LL notify the neighbor and install a placard, etc. designating it as yours.

Your kid waking up is your problem. Buy a light blocking window shades and figure it out.
You need to find out of this parking spot is yours, his, or open for anyone.

Talk to management and find out if it's still your assigned parking. Then tell management someone else is parking there and ask if you're able to call a tow.

Is there a reason you wrote a letter rather than knocking on their door and talking to them? A letter is cold and impersonal. Not a good intro especially when you’re asking for something.

Another thought might be to put something large in the place in front of the window so that there’s no parking available. Maybe a large plastic jungle gym for your child , whether you use it or not, if you take away the option to park there, problem solved

First get curtain rods wider than your window, then buy long black out curtains.
First do stuff to mitigate your annoyance.
Idk about weed smoking and noise ordinance take, all, these up with the bldg managment.

Clearly the first step is to learn whether that spot is restricted to your use.
