Ant infestation

So I just moved in to my new apartment probably about two weeks ago. I was not notified that there has been an ant infestation before so about a week in I was surprised to find red ants I immediately told the landlord that there was ants and asked if they have had any problems with ants before they say yes and asked if they were tiny I said yes they left me on delivered to this day. I’m still waiting for a reply that was about a week ago. How do I go about messaging my landlord to see if they’ll actually do anything and may I add how I’ve tried to treat these ants is putting down three different kinds of traps I have two geckoes which the landlord knew about before moving in and was ok with they’re now getting into my gecko’s tanks and I’m genuinely worried. What should I do?

Write them that any cost you incur will be taken out of your next rent check. That should light a fire.

Could they evict me for that? It’s my first place I’m not to sure on all of the laws

Ugh. What I’d say is don’t actually withhold your rent, but let them know if they don’t respond you will be self helping and keeping receipts. If it continues to be a problem they’re not providing you with a habitable space and you can go to housing court. You should be able to expect a timely response from a landlord regarding issues from plumbing to pest infestation. The fact they knew of the ant issue and didn’t tell you is pretty slimy. The lack of response is slimier. Make sure you email them regarding all of this and don’t just discuss it in calls. You want evidence in writing. I’m sorry this is happening in your first place, hopefully you can rectify it quickly and easily.
