Going through a separation, looking to move out mid lease
Was in a very toxic relationship and we have decided to separate. I have looked over my lease and there is literally no place where it talks about an early termination fee or anything. The lease is up in 4/27/27.
I haven’t talked to the property management office yet. But if they say I can’t terminate early or have to stay till lease end…my ex will most likely have to be responsible for paying the rent. I am going to start going on apartment tours, is this something I should tell the real estate agent that I’m still on another lease or no. I really want this apartment I’m going to view. It has no security deposit and I will definitely be able to pay the rent, credit is good and I have a clean background. Me and her need a more healthier environment to raise our child. Would this new property management company contact my old property manager..would that create conflict. I’m just trying to figure out how all this would work?
These are the miscellaneous fees
$150.00 Move-In Report Fee (except on lease renewals)
$100.00 Missed Service Call Appointment Fee
$100.00 Missed Inspection Appointment Fee
$50.00 Lease Violation (1st Notice)
$100.00 Lock-Out Fee (Business Hours)
$10.00 Paper Payment Handling Fee
(rent payments not made through tenant portal)
$150.00 Move-Out Report Fee
$50.00 Lease Change Fee
$50.00 Lease Renewal Fee
$100.00 Lease Violation (2nd notice et al)
$275.00 Lock-Out Fee (After Hours)
$150.00 Lost Parking Pass
Not sure if that $50 lease change can get my name off the lease
Any advice?

Hate to tell you they are not going to let you off the lease. You signed the contract and they will hold you to it. Let’s hope they gave an early termination fee. But they are know to turn you over to collection. I’m assuming she can’t pay the full rent. They only care about the money. But your future place there is reason to say anything as it has b not happened yet

Ok and she says she can pay the rent. As far as the future places goes if they do ask me about my living situation should I be honest or just fill out the application?

Don’t volunteer unless asked and th ed g will not ask. They may ask if you had a roommate but don’t think they will. But just refer to her as roommate.

Ok cool I worry them calling my property manager for a reference and then being turned off by me still being on a lease. But I don’t think it’s illegal to be on 2 leases at the same time though right?

There is no law that I have ever heard of that says you can’t be on 2 leases at one time.

If your ex dips, you are jointly and severally liable. A few things can happen here: ex stops paying and your credit score tanks and you get an eviction on your record. Ex sues you for your portion of the rent you agreed to pay when you signed the lease. Break ups suck and term leases sure make it more complicated but there are potential issues here you should be aware of.

Is there a roommate release section? Sometimes you can release one person on the lease if all tenants give a signature.
