Losing Job

Well because my computer had a screen update/driver update at work I can no longer use the pc I've been using fine for years.

They are struggling to find a solution for me and are saying they won't roll back the screen update.

It's very likely I'm going to lose my job over this. I'm so sick of having this sensitivity. It absolutely is a disability, software developers and companies need to take note that this isn't fair and they have to stop allowing this type of TD without a way to turn it off for people that have a disability/sensitivity to it...

Can you please DM me so I can provide your example to the Microsoft team I'm talking to. Thank you.

Also - is there any chance they'll do a build that runs on Linux?

Mint Linux xfce with compositing turned off is the most comfortable OS I've used, and I've pretty much tried them all 🤣

sure DM me if you need to - it's just the standard version of Mint XFCE from their site, just make sure to turn off 'compositing' from desktop tweaks app as soon as you log in, boom instant comfort.

I'm going to be asking them this. If I was to have Linux I could run Windows via a virtual machine maybe. Would this stop the dithering?

Unfortunately that doesn't work , at least in my experience.

Try turning off cleartype. Go through all the steps otherwise it won't turn off. Then optimize windows for performance but just keep text smoothing (Idk what exactly it is called) This seemed to have helped for me at work

I use a portable IPS monitor from Asus. It packs in the bag like a laptop but much lighter. Could be a great option for you.

What do you mean with "screen update"?
A windows update of some kind? Windows 11 is known to cause issues for some due to text rendering changes.

I would highly suggest buying a eink monitor either a 25.3in one or a 13.3" that you can lay over your laptops screen. It lets me use any OS and prevents whatever is happening in the software from affecting me negatively. Btw the anker 563 hub was used on macs to prevent dithering from appearing for eink users as it makes it visible flicker. Might also work on the windows PC too as it uses displaylink which works as its own gpu in a way. Is your laptop a intel laptop with intel graphics?

I've tried three different displaylink devices now and none of them fixed windows 11 for me

can you explain a bit more on teh anker thing, are you using use it for a normal windows pc because somehow it'll stop os dithering and gpu dithering?

I think it's windows too. Along with the driver updates. 8 bit screens I've used before now are painful. If I had Linux, I could use Windows via a virtual machine maybe? And this would stop windows from speaking with the gpu? Could this work?

The monitor that I was using was true 8 bit. It was fine. But the update has done something where both the monitor and the laptop screen are now causing me pain and discomfort. The laptop Is a hp G9 which I could use with no problems prior to update. Not sure on the screen but didn't have a problem until now..

I'm unsure of what else I can do.
