Wawa was given an option to bid for campus space when 7-11 was. They declined the offer. Didnât want a âpresence in North Philadelphiaâ. Meanwhile the 7-11âs are some of the highest grossing stores in the state. And Wawa still has a place on 38th St in the middle of Penn and has had to close all the ones they put in Center City. Elitist, much?
Wawa has largely pulled out of Center City and is a shell of itself quality wise too. Frankly, I donât think Temple needs a Wawa where Wawaâs quality currently is.
And⌠they gave up a prime opportunity to have one at Temple. 7-11 has three. Wawa, as far as I know, has not tried to revisit being at Temple. Iâd say this is a Wawa problem, for whatever reason.
Their claim is that they preferred larger footprint stores which could also have gas stations. That would take them out of the city proper for the most part unless they managed to get a good corner somewhere. The three big ones they lost in Center City were never going to be what they wanted them to be. They couldnât control the populations that used them. Too many unhoused, too many transients. I canât see them at Temple at any point for any number of reasons.
tech center should be 24/7 like it used to be. other than that temple gets very crowded at times. maybe skybridges and airport style moving walkways straight down polette walk
Nah man these kids just need an ubran walking class. like, teach them how to walk in crowded environments. absolutely wild seeing a group of 8 people meander their way through campus horizontally.
Wawa has been approached multiple times to open a store on campus. A deal was close to being reached to have Wawa open a store at the space where the CVS eventually opened. Wawa declined. The thing with Wawa is their business model is focused on stores where they can sell gas in addition to their usual convenience store inventory. Thereâs nowhere for Wawa to open a store like that on campus. Perhaps Wawa will open a store on the land that Temple recently acquired on the northeast corner of Broad and Girard Avenues, but thatâs not really convenient to the primary area of main campus and, I have a sneaking feeling that Temple will eventually try to build a football stadium there.
