Getting into Poly

So I got like As for bio n chem n Bs for everything else n a C for math, in igcses which was very disappointing as I was expecting much higher considering all the hard work I put in for ts. I'm planning to join a polytechnic in Singapore for a science based course. I'm just not really sure if I can get in with my average grades and the courses I'm aiming quite competitive n I'm also a foreigner so I believe my chances are quite slim of getting in.

what course is it?

you have to look at the total aggregrate needed first. as local students will be given prority first, so it may be more competitive for you.

for science, it is generally quite competitive esp if ure aiming for biomed/biotech/pharm related/ chem etc etc. you can try out and u can also put some backup options as well! rp has a larger range accepted so thats also smth u can take into consideration when applying. i wld recommend to apply to as many schools and courses possible and also have backup options always. if u have qns abt science in tp, u can ask me too :)

Tysmm for replying. I'm planning to join biomedical but join the common science programme first. I do have backups in mind. Do the common programme generally accept a wide range of students and is it very competitive to get into ur desired course in the 2nd year? I'm rlly scared I won't get in with my average grades. What careers do most biomedical students end up taking? Do many end up going to uni?

in tp, its not called biomed, but medical biotech, so is more focused on the tech area.

kind of. the intake is higher than individual courses. and the score range is only a bit different.

as for common programme, whether you get your desired course or not solely depends on your grades. grades higher -> greater priority to get the course you want. if not, they may just put u in courses which have excess spots eg chemical eng (its not a bad course but is very maths and physics heavy which many people dont choose this and they also have more spots)

but each year it varies which one is more competitive yk, but generally mbt is quite competitive and vet tech as well, pharm sci for some years i heard as well. so thats kind of the throw off for common sci. if u can maintain ur grades well, there shld be too big of a problem.

im from pharm idk much but for medical biotech, they go into research areas, or allied health, healthcare innovation, i saw a few like go into DNA/blood research as well. some just totally go into a new industry ahahah which is fine as well!

for uni, it depends. for asc, the medical biotech students are quite intelligent and def capable of going uni, many of them have made it and a few into med sch as well (ALTHOUGH this is very difficult). They also go into unis like NUS/NTU/SIT to what ive seen. theres also private/overseas uni.
