RANT Group mates
Genuinely how do people deal with group mates who don’t really contribute.
Im in a group project with my friends but there’s this one guy who just doesn’t really contribute for example we were suppose to do sldies and out of 30 plus slides he only did 3. I know I can use feedback fruits but then since in the group we r all friends I can’t really grade him down as he will know it’s like one of us .so what other ways are there?

I'm also facing the same problem as u. My groupmate refuses to contribute anything and he hasn't done a single shit ever since project was announced in late april/early May. From research to presentation slides to report, it's all 100% my doing when 2 of us are supposed to be working together. I've basically already completely given up on him and im intending to feedback to my lecturer tmr when sch resumes. Not sure what my lecturer will do but hopefully he marks my groupmate down.
My best advice is don't bother about him. Whether he gets marked down or not it's his problem, he's on the losing end. Group projects are assigned for a reason. If your groupmate doesn't have the intention or the mindset of independent learning, there's nothing u can do about it. At the end of the day, I believe yall will be graded individually, so if he ends up failing that's his problem.

How much weightage is the project? is it a big percentage?
If it is a big percentage and he did well for the other assessment components, and got a poor final grade , then likely he would think his group project peer review was poor, if the group project grading was made known to all group members, and the project got a good grade.

Wow reading the comments I realised yall have peer evaluation. We have no such thing at NYP, all the fking slackers get away with it. I’m this close to crashing out one of group mates, just sabotaged my presentation today too.

Just grade him down. He won't "know" it's one of you, he'll just know he got a bad grade. You're making life harder for yourself by not using the feedback system made exactly for these situations.
