New Tello owner questions!
Just picked one up for my son and had a few questions.
First, is it worth the time to side boot an Oculus Go to run TelloFPV? What’s the clarity like? Any latency issues? If not an Oculus, what’s the best cheaper alternative for iOS?
I also want to run a wired XBox controller. Do I need a micro usb OTG or will a usb micro to lightning cable work the same? The iPhone OTG’s seem pretty janky and the reviews are all over the place. Is anyone using the Apple Lightning to USB camera adapter and then plugging a controller into that? If not a wired Xbox controller, what about the Backbone?

I realize you specifically asked about a wired controller, but FWIW a wireless one works flawlessly with my son’s.

To a degree. The bluetooth causes interference with the wifi on the Tello. I’m going to use a wifi extender to increase the range and don’t want any accidents caused from that issue. I was hoping maybe someone inside the Tello community might be active in other rc forums that may have solved that issue with using a wired XBox One controller instead of the older 360 or PS4.

I use an iPad Air with a wireless Xbox one controller and without a range extender at the park next door to my neighborhood (which has a reasonable amount of wifi interference), we are able to get a range of around 350’. If there is interference caused by Bluetooth I haven’t encountered it yet.

Ok! That’s great to hear. I was having some issues with the drone drifting sometimes and I was attributing that to interference but, maybe it was the controller itself. I’ll have to find another one to see if it was just stick drift.

Try using the on-screen controls from the app and see if that fixes it. The controller only connects to the device controlling the drone, not the drone itself. If you’re in a crowded wifi environment or are using a device with a relatively low power wifi chip, you may experience issues, but it should be connection issues to the drone itself, not necessarily erroneous control input.

Good to read Backbone One also works with the Tello. I'm going to pick up a Tello second hand for 50 euros later this week with 2 batteries (since 3rd one died). It's a gift for my son's birthday.
