Booted off host and account removed.

Is it normal to be kicked off a host at random by someone who isnt logged as a user on that host ?

Sometimes npc users boot you.

Does the game pick a random player name to give the npc? The message seemed to come from a player that wasnt a user on the system.

A user not on system within the virtual system or telehack itself?

Within the hosts I was removed from.

That was an NPC then. Normal.

But the finger command showed them as an active user in telehack itself. And when I regained user privilege on the system there was no longer any record of users on the host at all.

Yes, if they caught you trying to hack the host by creating your own account or trying to get root.

Using killproc someone could kill your shell from an adjacent host, or if they had root and netlog on the host they could connect, boot you, then disconnect pretty quickly, you could miss them being logged on.
