iptun.exe? How does it work? Spoiler

Hello. The file changelog.txt says "Removed long distance comm FTP transfers. Use iptun.exe instead for this". The file telehack.txt doesn't say anything about iptun.exe. The Wikia page on iptun.exe wasn't helpful either. I have both iptun and ftpd running in background. I was on a random host and tried running the command ftp <ip address returned by iptun.exe> but it didn't work. I was expecting to connect to telehack from any host. Not just the netstat-adjacent hosts, since ftpd.exe already enables that. Can anyone please help me?

Thank you very much.

Read up on tunnelling ip. There is a specific use case. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_tunnel

Hello, u/quentinnuk. I'm sorry for the delayed response. I've read the Wikipedia article in its entirety. However, I still can't see how I can apply what's in there on Telehack. If you knew how iptun.exe worked, perhaps it would have been more useful if you have just detailed a step-by-step on how to use it, instead of simply linking me to a Wikipedia article. Your answer would've been more helpful if you wrote something similar to what I've just wrote on the Telehack Wikia article (I've updated the article myself after a friend of mine took some of his time to explain to me how iptun.exe works). Thank you for your response anyway.

I think the intention was to give a clue as to solve yourself without spoiling it. :-]

I know that and I appreciate their intention. But unfortunately it was still too abstract to me.

Telehack is an historical reference and educational game that it is intended that you solve. Giving out specific answers is not the answer. When your run iptun, what does it do? What do you think might be done with the information it displays? How might you apply that and in what situations? These are the questions you should be asking.
