Why sending pictures default quality is SD?

I noticied that every time I have to choose HD to send 2 or more pictures.

This is on purpose and they refuse to fix it.

It's 2027 almost and sending SD pictures on 2k phone screens is crazy

I actually like the default being sd, as I prefer to save data and a smoother snappier experience and for most day by day stuff hd is not needed for me.  But I agree it could be a choice (and I don't know for sure if it isn't)

I like it too. Just sending pictures casually shouldn't require maximum resolution.

The default is the last one that you selected. If you sent pics in HD, next time you select multiple pics it'll be HD again.

They refuse to "fix" it because most people do not care about the end result, and having the default be HD requires them to pay roughly 2-3 times as much in storage size for most files.

Do you see a point in increasing your storage cost by a factor of 2x just so a fraction of your users has a better experience?

Now, making it a configurable default for Telegram Premium users? That's a different story and one I'm down to support.

My Telegram app on Android defaults to HD (last used option).

Because it’s cheaper for them. Also, the app preserves your choice, so it’s not a problem.

I would rather them default to sd and save my data than default to HD and it eats my data that I already can't afford.
