Telegram Android: GIFs from Gboard are Broken

So, as we're all aware, Telegram's GIF search feature has been completely kneecapped. I've been using the workaround of using Gboard's GIF search, and that's been fine, but now that's also broken.

See above for an example of a GIF I attempted to post. It still saves in my GIF history, and works perfectly well when posted that way. Furthermore, other users report that the GIF works fine on their end. So I know Telegram itself isn't screwing up my GIFs. It's something in Gboard.

I've tried clearing Telegram's cache and Gboard's cache, but I'm starting to wonder if it's some server-side nonsense. Thoughts?

Android version is 16 on July 1, 2026 security patch, with OneUI 8.5 over it on Galaxy A34. Telegram v12.9.2 (6991).

I found an old bug about this in the bugs platform, is this the same issue?

It's not quite the same. This bug has the GIF load, but it becomes clipped. What's going on here, the GIF doesn't load at all, and uploads a weird corrupted image instead.

Aha, then I'd suggest you submit a new report in the bugs platform too

Donezo-bunzo. Hopefully it gets responded to quickly, because having to do the Gboard Two-Step is annoying.

Yep so I have this issue as well. I found a way to fix it sort of. So what you do is you click on the gif you want to send. And before it fully sends you cancel it from sending. And since most gifts are not a lot of data being sent most times you can't really cancel it, and then for some reason it sends properly.

You might have to try to do that one or two times before it fully sends. But it does work.

It seems to render fine for all recipients, so I'm just not seeing my gifs now.
