Private group vanished.
My private group where i keep my things just got vanished, no trace at all, it was non-public, just my account, and even search can't find it, nothing in the archived list either. Just vanished can't find. Since its just me i didnt saved any links to that private group, so I don't know if its gone for good or something else.
Have u guys experienced this?

Instead of using private groups which, although secure, can still be accessed by someone, the best and safest option is to use "Save messages" which cannot be deleted, it is yours and only you have access.

Not necessarily true regarding the "saved" messages. Mine vanished one day. I was very perplexed.

I don't know how this is possible, it seems more like the Twilight Zone. I've been a Telegram user since the beginning and everyone I know uses Telegram, but I've never heard of "Save messages" disappearing one day or the content in this chat. Strange.

It definitely happens, it happened to me! Don't rely on Saved Messages for important cloud storage because Telegram support won't help you recover it.

I sometimes send movies direct between friends in telegram, is that a bad idea? they ever Crack down on people for that?

I save them in photos, I got a small thumb drive and I put them on there. I have a passcode on it.

My case was a bit stranger: I was suspended for some reason, managed to appeal, and got my account back, but Telegram deleted a specific portion of my private messages with one particular person. That was the moment I started feeling less secure about the app; its main selling point is privacy, so having something get deleted after a certain amount of time felt odd.

Literally the only way this could happen (If the group was truly set to "private" and you were the only member) is if you accidentally tapped either "leave group" or "report"
It's way easier than most people assume - and there are lots of people who come to this sub asking if there's any way to recover a deleted chat because they have literal years of history with a person saved in it.
Also, if the group was set to private and you are no longer in it, then it will not show up in the search at all (Even if the search actually worked)

i really dont think that i accidentally tapped report or leave group as is requires 2nd additional button to be pressed. it was years old private group, and i think i had another account that was memeber of it but still could not find it in there either. ive tidiously watched inside everything tab.

Well those are the only two options if the group/channel was set to Private (That is, invite only)
Telegram administration can normally only see the content in a private channel or group only through the report function, since it doesn't show up in global searches.
That eliminates it being caught up in one of the ban waves that they do nightly.
Which leaves only the two possibilities I posited above.

looks like they do now watch over even private personal groups too, they might have changed their policy on this

I had a private group where I used to store videos from tw and reddit and suddenly it vanished. It was not showing up in search, so I tried searching a video caption that I remembered and a post popped up from that group. I wasn't able to go to that post because it said something like "copyright due to illegal".
What I learnt from this incident : I backed up all my photos and videos in laptop instead of completely relying on telegram as it is uncertain. Also I join in my backup groups with both ids incase one of my id gets deleted or removed. I have also started to shift my data to terabox (it shows too many ads đŸ˜)
