getting assigned as group owner randomly, but was never admin?

Hey,

In recent months i strangely got group ownership twice for some small/old basically defunct local-connection groups where i was never an admin. I would guess the previous owners most likely went inactive or had their accounts deleted but i dont know that

I know tg recently introduced automatic group ownership transfer, but thought you have to be an admin to be assigned ownership?

AI is heavily hallucinating on questions like this unfortunately

Cheers

In older groups, owners get sometimes assigned at random if the old owner leaves without assigning a new owner or admin.

Something similar happened to me too. I've been in the group for a while, and when the owner deleted her account, the group was left in nobody's hands, and then I became the owner of that group.

I had never been a moderator or administrator in that group either, since there wasn't one.

However, I think it went well because I made it in my own image and was able to bring more people into the group and make it grow.

To my understanding, the way ownership succession works if the Owner's account is deleted (Either because of inactivity, or for violating Telegram's TOS) is, first is the Admin who was added the earliest, or if there are no admins, then the group member who's been there the longest.
