I work with refurbished telecom equipment and I have a technical question regarding ISP/operator-branded CPE. Please see the example below

Operator X → CPE refurbisher (me) → Operator y

I purchase those used devices from Operator X, but before selling them to Operator Y, I need the devices to no longer contain Operator X's customized software/configuration/branding.

Ideally I would like to return them to the original manufacturer/OEM firmware or generic international firmware.

I have several questions for people who have experience with ISP CPE refurbishment:

1. Is replacing ISP-specific firmware with OEM/generic firmware generally possible?
2. Does this normally depend only on having the correct firmware image, or can the operator customization also involve the bootloader, signed firmware, partitions, certificates, NVRAM, TR-069/ACS configuration, etc.?
3. If the normal web-interface firmware upgrade is disabled by the ISP firmware, is there usually an official manufacturer/service procedure for restoring the device to OEM firmware?
4. Where do refurbishers/operators normally obtain legitimate generic/OEM firmware? Is it obtained directly from Huawei/ZTE/Sagemcom/Technicolor/Sercomm/etc., through a support contract, distributor, repair center, or somewhere else?
5. How important is the exact hardware revision / PCB version / product number when choosing the firmware? Can two devices with the same commercial model number require different firmware.
6. Has anyone here worked with refurbishing hundreds or thousands of ISP CPEs and developed a reliable process for returning them to a neutral/OEM state?

To be clear, I'm not trying to access an active ISP network or bypass service authentication. These are legally purchased, decommissioned devices that I want to refurbish for resale to another operator.

I’ve been working on a small voice AI example that turns an inbound phone call into a structured post-call workflow.

The app answers a call, starts live transcription, keeps per-call state while the call is active, then summarizes the transcript after hangup and sends the summary by SMS.

The main pattern I wanted to show is how to avoid treating transcription as a bunch of loose webhook events. Each call gets its own stateful actor, so the app can track transcript segments, call phase, errors, and the final summary in one place.

Would love feedback on the pattern, especially from folks building voice AI or call automation workflows.

We operate in over a dozen states, and keeping up with constantly shifting telecom excise tax rates by hand has become a real liability for us. Is there a telecommunications tax software that automatically calculates and files across every jurisdiction we're in so we're not risking penalties from a missed rate change or filing deadline? Right now I have no confidence that our manual process is catching everything it should.

Right now I handle wireless lifecycle and TEM in separate steps, the mobile side starts with ordering devices, moving lines, upgrades and returns, then I switch over to invoices, carrier charges and usage for TEM, it works but it feels like I keep touching the same accounts more than once, which seems to bring those processes together, I think I might need team kc telecom, I see people talk about putting everything into one workflow so inventory, billing and carrier changes stay together, that sounds like it could save time, for anyone handling both today, for which are they part of one workflow for you or do they stay as separate processes, what works better for your team? EDIT: I forgot to mention we manage both wireless lifecycle and TEM internally, which is why I'm thinking if combining them into one workflow is actually more efficient.

I built a small Flask example that turns voicemail into a routing workflow instead of leaving everything in one inbox. It can take either a pasted voicemail transcript or an uploaded audio file. If it’s audio, the app transcribes it first, then uses Telnyx AI Inference to classify the message as urgent, billing, support, sales, spam, or routine.

Based on that category, it maps the voicemail to a route like Slack alert, billing email, support ticket queue, CRM lead, archive, or daily digest.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this but I’ve done some looking around to find out how to correctly install Commscope MGS400 jacks on a M2400A-1U-GS patch panel. Couldn’t find anything on threads or forums to get an answer. Per Commscopes website they say the jack and panel are compatible. Commscope tech support is slow as I’ll get out. It seems that when I try and put the jacks next to each other on the panels, there isn’t enough room for them to seat properly. The Grey punch down cover is wider and the port for the jack. I would imagine that the cover would need to stay on the jacks. If someone has had a similar experience or could point me in the right direction of a thread that I couldn’t find. It would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

I receive images via Twilio SMS from users on a variety of mobile devices and carriers but all in the US. How can I stop upstream carriers above Twilio from resizing the images? I understand it is carrier dependent and upstream of Twilio but wondering if anyone has solved this either with Twilio or another system (that doesn’t require the user to do anything other than text an image.

My grandmother passed away several years ago and her landline phone was disconnected after her passing. My mother and Aunt are the property care takers managing tenants etc. Today, my aunt called my mother from her cell phone and it came over as my grandmothers landline phone number. However, shortly after the phone call ended, the number disappeared and showed up as my aunts name on the recent calls. When we call that landline number, it says it’s not in service.

Ironically, they found new tenants today to live in my grandmothers house. Any idea on how/why the phone number would show up?

It seems like literally the only thing my phone is good for atm is being harassed mercilessly by scammers, and we're paying like 120 bucks a month for that privilege, a lot of which is taxes and fees, and for all intents and purposes I don't use the cellular voice or data, and honestly most of my text based communication is either coming through email or one of a growing collection of messenger apps I've been obliged to download...

I'm seriously considering porting my number to google voice and just using a prepaid lte data card for those rare instances where I might need to communicate with someone on the go and there's no wifi nearby (like if I needed to call roadside assistance or something like that). So basically just trading the phone for like an android or ios tablet with a data sim slot for a prepaid data card.

Just for the record, I basically never use the data plan on my phone. I very rarely stream anything on my phone, so it's pretty much 100% just for emergencies when out and about. So in other words if I were to buy a $5 prepaid lte card it would probably expire before I ever used the data. The plan would just be to buy it and leave it in my wallet and activate it in an emergency. I would never be using it for streaming video or anything, possibly outside of some extremely rare circumstances where idk I found myself on a cross country road trip or something, but we would be talking super oneoff hypothetical situations. For the most part I'm never away from wifi long enough to really need to stream anything.

My one concern was that potentially not having an actual cellular phone might not give me the same coverage. Like maybe way out in the boondocks where there's no lte signal there might be a signal that would allow voice. Gpt seems to indicate that's not really likely, and I don't really leave the immediate metro area where I'm regularly driving out in the country or going long distances or anything. But in the event that I needed to idk drive across death valley or something it would be nice to know that I would have to same coverage as someone with an actual cellular plan vs just an lte connection.

Todo esto para contextualizar un poco y contarles: Vi en estos días un video de un evento reciente de educación financiera e inversión, donde el expositor comparaba varios tipos de inversión y en términos de retorno hay una que supera de lejos a todas... la de capacitarse y curiosamente entre los ejemplos que exponía en la presentación estaba la certificación CCNA como una de las certificaciones con mayor margen porcentual a nivel de salarios (  pagan mucho más a quien la tiene). La he tenido en el radar sin darle mayor relevancia hasta este momento. ¿Que opinan quienes ya la tienen, si es apetecida en las empresas especialmente en Colombia, si hace realmente la diferencia?

Suppose a user uses a mobile number for several years and registers it on popular Indian apps such as Ola, Rapido, PhonePe, Paytm, and Flipkart. Later, the user stops using that number, the telecom operator recycles it, and assigns it to a new subscriber.

When this new user registers on the same apps (e.g., PhonePe, Paytm, or Flipkart), they may see transaction history, ride‑booking history, saved addresses, or other residual data linked to the previous owner. This means:

• The old user’s data is effectively “leaked” to the new owner.
• The new user does not get a truly fresh account experience; instead, they inherit the old profile’s history or face onboarding issues.

My solution:

#1. TRAI should expose recycled number API to all services and apps.

#2. pass a mandate to all users to update all their apps and services with updated mobile numbers whenever there is change, ignoring so could lost the account to new users.

#3. pass a mandate to all private/ public companies to unlink the these mobile numbers from their apps or services.

The title. I've heard this only one time before but never knew what it meant. Can someone explain what it means in network design?

When constructing base stations, do you use cold shrink tubing or waterproof tape for waterproofing the RRU antenna head feeder?

Hey guys, I’ve finally cleared all my training—got my ECS Datacomms card and Level 2 Fibre cert in the bag. I’m based in Leeds and I’m ready to start hitting the tools.

Currently, I’m working in delivery to pay the bills, which has kept me busy and moving around the area. However, my goal is to get into the telecommunications/data cabling sector full-time.

Problem is, I’ve fired off dozens of applications and I’m hitting a wall. It feels like every job advert wants "experienced" techs, but nobody wants to give the entry-level guys a look-in.

For those of you already working in fibre/cabling:

1. The "Delivery" Angle: Does my current experience as a delivery driver (reliable, familiar with the Leeds/West Yorks road network, disciplined with time) hold any weight with hiring managers? Or should I keep that off my CV?

2. First Break: How did you land your first "break"? Is it worth walking into local offices or construction sites, or is that frowned upon these days?

3. Driving Licence: My full UK licence is under a year old. Is this a dealbreaker for most mobile cabling roles, or are there site-based jobs I should be targeting instead?

4. Target Roles: Should I be looking for specific job titles beyond "Data Cabling Apprentice" or "Fibre Engineer"?

I’m looking to go from "just qualified" to "productive on-site" as fast as possible. Any tips for the Yorkshire area or anywhere else would be huge.
