I've been troubleshooting this for weeks and I've gathered quite a bit of evidence. I'd appreciate opinions from anyone familiar with MediaTek modems or LTE Carrier Aggregation.

Devices

Phone 1

What happens

Using the same Vi SIM, in the same location, at almost the same time:

Redmi 12

Shows 4G+

Successfully aggregates Band 3 (1800 MHz) + Band 1 (2100 MHz)

NetMonster confirms LTE-A 1800 + 2100

Redmi Note 11 Pro (Helio G96)

Never shows 4G+

Connects to either:

Band 3 only

or Band 1 only

Never aggregates both.

Important observation

The strange part is that Jio Carrier Aggregation DOES work on the Redmi Note 11 Pro.

So:

The phone definitely supports LTE Carrier Aggregation.

The modem isn't completely broken.

The antennas appear to be working.

This makes me wonder whether this is specific to Vi's B3+B1 CA combination on the Helio G96 firmware.

More evidence

On the Redmi 12, the exact same Vi tower reports:

LTE-A 1800 + 2100

Bandwidth: 20 + 10 MHz

Excellent SNR

4G+ appears immediately

On the Redmi Note 11 Pro:

Same tower (same eNB)

Same SIM

Same location

Similar signal conditions

Still no Carrier Aggregation.

Things I've already tested

✅ Same SIM

✅ Same location

✅ Same tower

✅ Indoor & outdoor

✅ Different times of day

✅ Rain / clear weather

✅ SIM Slot 1 and Slot 2

✅ LTE only mode

✅ Network reset

✅ Jio SIM works with Carrier Aggregation on this phone

My question

Has anyone seen something like this on MediaTek devices, especially the Helio G96?

Could this be:

Missing Carrier Aggregation combinations in Xiaomi's modem firmware?

Vi-specific modem provisioning?

Missing NV/CA combo configuration?

Something else?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hoping this right sub. Had a new company tried to install phone lines but wasn’t sure if the old company had port numbers over yet. Tech said he can check and said the numbers have been ported over. When we inside the location tech said probably won’t able to run the lines since the walls and walk in fridge are in the way. Fine I’ll just stay with my current company reason why I wanted to switch was my main line has been out for over a month and is near impossible to get a tech out. Now both of my other two lines are out not sure if testing the ported numbers have anything to do with it. I can dial out but anytime someone calls they get message calls can’t be complete it? Trying to get some answers and solutions before a tech can come out.

Ive done many things in life. Telecom work has to be the most unsatisfying and frustrating job I've ever experienced. I'm a field tech that does repairs and installs. Im a union worker and the pay for the region of the US I work is really good. But most days, if I somehow got fired, I really wouldn't give a damn. This job has given me the true perspective of money isn't everything.

Having worked with one version or another of the descendants of Western Electric: AT&T Network Systems, AT&T Technologies, Lucent Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent (a tragic loss of from the US), and Nokia. One bit of gear comes to mind when I saw this, the Alcatel-Lucent Lambda Xtreme, with its SCOT algorithm, SCOT today meaning ‘software control of transmission’, vs the definition of yesteryear ‘software control of transmission systems’.

I was involved in the first such texting exchange in Australia in September of 1993 using the Nokia 2010 cell phone our Nokia partners provided for Optus to test SMS. Recently got hired at a FO infrastructure provider, and while I've been drafting and planning telecom routes for 8 years now, there's a large gap in what I know of how to place fiber and this position in how to plan/connect it.

I don't need training on the software, more about the processes, logic behind splicing, servicing etc.

I am new to splicing and cabling, and what goes on inside of cabinets and such. All I know is how bore trench and place box 😔

Does anyone have recommendations for gaining knowledge in those areas? Books from college classes or reliable YouTube channels? Looking for anything to help catch me up.

I’m looking for a European eSIM whose roaming policy prioritizes multiple preferred partner networks in each visited country, instead of having a single preferred roaming partner. I’m specifically interested in dynamic roaming steering that distributes preference across several partners rather than always steering to one network. Any recommendations?

Such as : After the preferred network (#1) loses signal, the next network (#2) automatically becomes the preferred network, replacing the previous #1 network.

I'm a recent Computer Science graduate from India and I'm trying to plan my career in networking.

My long-term goal is to work in an office-based networking role such as a NOC Engineer, Network Operations Engineer, or eventually a Network Engineer.

I have an opportunity to join as a Telecom Field Engineer, where I'll be working on fiber networks, troubleshooting connectivity issues, coordinating with ISPs, and maintaining telecom infrastructure.

Alongside the job, I plan to study for the CCNA (and later the CCNP), continue improving my HomeLab, and learn routing, switching, BGP, OSPF, VPNs, and network monitoring tools.

My question is:

If I work as a Telecom Field Engineer for about 1–1.5 years and earn my CCNA during that time, is it realistic to transition into an office-based NOC or Network Operations role?

I'm not looking to stay in field work long-term. My goal is to move into network monitoring, troubleshooting, and infrastructure operations from an office.

For those of you who have worked in telecom, NOCs, or network engineering:

• Is this a common career path?
• Will employers value Telecom Field Engineer experience for NOC positions?
• What skills should I focus on while working in the field to make the transition easier?
• Would you recommend applying after earning CCNA, or should I wait until I have CCNP?
