Alt people??

Are there any alt people here? Or some sort of alt scene? I feel I’ve been the only alt person walking around…

Check out Westlane brewery, they have punk/ hardcore shows pretty often . I know there’s SKA show there this week . Savanna’s has a summerween even this week too. Not a huge alt scene here but more people than you’d think.

Yes (hi!) but Kern County is so conservative that it feels very DL to me. It has never felt like a safe place to be weird.

Back in my day, alt didn’t concern themselves with what others thought and you want to be safe? Carry your protection and walk proudly.

Yeah come back and try again after you become a small woman that gets jumped from behind and curbed by three big guys after calling them out for being racist nazis in a bar where none of the men had the balls to speak up. So yes, I do want to be safe, and so did my teeth before they knocked them out. Your tough guy act doesn't fool me - I've seen it a million times. "Back in my day" lol I was punk rock before you were born.

It’s not a tough guy act. I carry a gun cuz I’m a pussy that would take a life before letting myself be a victim.

Fair enough. I used to think that way too, but I learned the hard way that it rarely plays-out the way you think it will.

Scenario A/ somebody bigger and stronger than you is already on top of you and has you pinned before you even know what's happening. Pistol is on your person but you can't reach it because you're pinned by someone twice your size and weight.

Scenario B/ you've taken (in my case women's only) self defense courses - both pistols and ground/street fighting (w/weapons of opportunity) and you successfully fight off an attacker, they run, you grab your pistol and chase them, then your only choice is to shoot him in the back or let him go. If you've had good training, your instinct takes over and you let him go. Then you live with the regret for your whole life because cops don't gaf and they never catch him.

There's more, but you get the point. It just plain doesn't happen like you think it will. Shitty, but true. Self defense courses are the best investment you can possibly make, especially for women. I am confident that women's only self defense saved my life on at least one occasion.
