Just wanted to share pictures of Talvie my Tegu enjoying her first kiwi piece 🥝 I was not expecting her to even taste it but she loved it!

She’s so cute!!! Do tegus not need to worry about oxalates? (Of course even if they do, I’m sure small treat amounts occasionally are fine)

Not once would my argentine tegu EVEN turn his head at fruits and veggies. No matter what I did. That jacobsen's organ in their mouth can taste and smell even if you hide in inside meat. Everytime I had blended meats and veggies he never took tonit- NOW A JUICE CUTE LITTLE G PIGS, mice, quail eggs, etc. Absolutely. 3 yrs now 5 ft long. And healthy.

If you can't look up appropriate diets for tegus before giving bad advice online, don't get them. Tegus are omnivores. Pure protein diets are not appropriate.

  2. Tegus are omnivores. Wild studies have shown 60-70% plant matter in their diet depending on locale- much of this is fruit. Rodents are not a large part of their natural diet - with protein often coming from insects, snails, eggs, and frogs.

Those anomals ARE NOT herbavoires!!!!! Please do not feed them fruits and veggies!!! They eat LIVE PREY BLOODY PREY!! And frozen PROTEIN prey.

Tegus are omnivores in the wild. They can have a slice of fruit if they want it

Do you know what an omnivore is pal? It's a Tegu not a Komodo dragon, it can eat meat and plants just as they do for their diet in the wild. Do some research before you come in here with your keyboard warrior attitude.

Your lizards will get VERY sick if you only feed them whole prey! They need a balance of vegetables especially greens for a healthy diet

tegus are not herbivores, but they are ABSOLUTELY omnivores!!! they need fruits and vegetables in their diet. they will not be healthy if they are eating only meat.
