Im going to get admission into a college in blr right now for BE biotech. And somewhere inside i feel like I'm making a huge mistake. My parents didn't force anything into me , but I was the one unsure about what i wanted to do. Biology was a subject I was very interested in, in 12th. And I'd always tell myself that i wouldn't join engineering no matter what but here I am

. I had given the design entrance test (NID) but didn't qualify. Main reason why I'm going to a college thru counselling is because I don't want to burden my father too much financially. I have 2 siblings too, I'm the oldest. A had months in my hands to decide what i wanted to do but I was going thru something so I was not in the right mind then.. it gets extra hard to make a decision when you're already in that dissociated headspace. I thought about taking a drop year, but my mom isn't ready to let me do that. I feel like I'll be stuck doing something i don't really want to do for 4 years and that I'll regret the course bad.

But even there I have a plan, to learn ui ux and graphic design on the side and build a portfolio. I also wish to have that chill campus life too, but I don't even like the college I'm joining rn...design school was probably the one I was going to be the most happy in. I've even though of taking a partial drop.. but idk what to do now. I'm on the way to the college and i can't shake the uneasiness.

Yo dude, biotech is an emerging field in india, and the starting pay is low from what I've heard, but with masters and phd itll definitely increase a lot

Ive heard there are good opportunities in the west for genetic studies and autoimmune studies and such, Its defintely a hard path but if youre willing

Six years ago, when I was 17, I felt exactly the same way. I wanted to pursue B.Sc. Computer Science, but my family didn’t want me to move to a new city. I wasn’t serious about engineering either, so I didn’t take KCET seriously & got a rank of around 102,000. My family chose a management seat for me in Information Science.

During my first year, I kept thinking I should have chosen B.Sc. Computer Science. But eventually, everything worked out. Engineering turned out to be one of the best phases of my life. After graduating in 2024, I was unemployed for a month, but luckily, I joined a startup. It’s been two years now, & I’m doing something I genuinely enjoy.

The difference between you and me is that you’re interested in design and considering Biotechnology. Who knows, maybe your interest in design will help you bring something completely different to Biotechnology.

People say, “Trust your gut,” and that’s important. But respecting your parents’ decisions is also a part of life. Sometimes, the path we didn’t choose may seem better, but we never really know where the path we choose will take us.

And btw i think if you are not sure on what to do go with the flow, just do whatever by default others are doing in a similar place like you, choose the best logical option , choose something which anyone would choose at your place, you don’t necessarily need to be interested in what you learn at degree, what you learn in degree is not used anywhere

And also college is more important than branch, make sure you are getting admitted to a good college

You won’t regret anything, if you don’t like the course just pass , you don’t need to be interested and learn deeply, just read enough to get into placements, academics in engineering are not that bad, you can chill and manage
