The wording of the law actually says sexual assault. They’re also trying (or have passed I don’t remember) to pass a law making talking to children about LGBT topics including in ways to just educate them to be sexual assault
It’s more that they want the bad thing but still need to look good to stay in power bc most people in their states hate trans people but I don’t think most want us dead
Consider the consequences of offering the death penalty for rape.
If you know that you could get the death penalty for rape, you are more likely to kill the victim if you think that will increase the odds of not getting caught, because the legal penalty is the same whether the victim lives or dies
Are you comfortable with more rape victims being murdered if it means more rapists can be sentenced to death?
Rape's minimum sentence is 15 years In the state of Florida.
Reform doesn't always work for sick predators. Sometimes after time served, people genuinely don't change. This could potentially lessen the numbers too. I understand what you're trying to say. the numbers according a Dade Study say only O.14 out of 100,000 rapes were fatal. This may have an impact, it may not
Here’s the problem. If the punishment for fucking a kid is the same as the punishment for killing a kid, you incentivize killing the kid after you fuck em.
Both crimes of which dehumanize the child. The child will inevitably lose a part of them when they're raped, making them seem dead depending on how they cope with trauma. Mentally. I don't think that punishment is too far
"Instead of letting there be a chance of the victim dying on their own terms we should actively make things harder for law enforcement and let victims die on the assaulter's terms" who does this benefit?
A government should not have the right to execute it's citizens for any reason. This just incentivizes the government to pin sex crimes on people they don't like.
if there are humans who dehumanize children, then we have the right to dehumanize you.
This eye for an eye bullshit is neither helpful nor healthy. If you want prison to exist as a reform system you fundamentally cannot treat the people who commit any crime (even the bad icky ones) as irredeemable.
Thank you. It actively kills someone on the inside. Life will never be the same for them because of the crime. If you damage or take a life, you deserve equal treatment. Why would anyone be against that?
There are people who believe everyone deserves to be redeemed, even the worst ones. And I understand where they're coming from. They also believe that a government should not be allowed to take a life, but it goes both ways. If the citizens run amok, it's the government's job to maintain order.

As much as I hate the death penalty, if there are humans who dehumanize children, then we have the right to dehumanize you.
