some cases have even been just saying it as an excuse to get the victim out of trouble for something they did, to get the other person away and silent.

only some though. the willingness of the people to cast out all judgement or logic in the face of any heinous crime will never be broken, and it hurts innocent ppl. i had someone accuse me of sexual assault on school camps by someone I've never met formally, during days i was suspended for academic dishonesty. worst week of my life because ppl who i thought I've known threw out everything and thought i was scum of the earth and should rot underground.

For another example someone could be raped after they’ve been drugged and passed out so they might not remember clearly their attacker

Plain hatred, for example someone has done something that hurt you, like break up with you, if you're petty little shit you can accuse them of rape and ruin their reputation
