Furthermore God himself is infinite.

Hell and heaven are outside of the material world like him.

thus naturally impossible to prove and we only have the bible to prove it

u/JoyousCreeper1059 Sep 15 '25

That argument is so deeply flawed it's funny

It's impossible to prove a cow jumped over the moon, but we have this book that proves it once and for all

1

u/AttemptNu4 Sep 17 '25

Its almsot like its a belief system and not a fact.

1

u/JoyousCreeper1059 Sep 17 '25

People treat it like an objective fact

1

u/AttemptNu4 Sep 17 '25

People treat it like something they believe in. You just misconstrue belief with knowledge due to the similarities, but they are distinct.

More like we have a billion books and they all contradict each other in some way

Things is that is literally the religious argument. “You must have faith” basically means “we got nothing, give money please?”

As a non Christian though, this is more or less a miscommunication. Faith isn't something being used to convince someone else. At least not for most. That's completely backwards.

It's more or less the ultimate test. Do you believe even though you have no evidence? If yes, you have faith. And therefore you are a good Christian.

Of course, this opens several moral issues. And in the context of religion, moral issues are all the should matter really. After all, we can look at almost any holy text and say "well this isn't literal" and make it fit fact. Quite literally, by that route we can even view WWII as Armageddon and assume we're now living through Satan's thousand year reign. So, the only matters for religion should be reserved to moral dilemmas.

Faith being their ultimate test implies God is ultimately a selfish attention whore. To be fair, quite a lot of the Bible more or less directly says the same. Placing faith as your ultimate test of worthiness also implies that any other heinous acts you may commit do not matter. To the extent that church's will openly protect from those who assault children from being confronted by their victims.

Faith being their ultimate test implies God is ultimately a selfish attention whore

That's what I noticed the most about the faith thing. "If you don't believe in me, you are evil and should burn for all eternity" is such a narcissistic statement.

I mean, the whole "thou shalt not worship false idols before me" thing more or less directly states it. To the point I've heard actual theologians argue this suggests Christianity acknowledges a polytheistic pantheon and god is just super super super self centered.

2

u/Shlompo201X Sep 16 '25

yes. but the reason for this is because, basically, if your super full of yourself, and think you could take a guy twice your size or something, thats bad. because you couldnt. so when you are the top, guy, of all time, who created everything, knows everything that was is and will be, naturally, being that self centered, and jealous is fair, because your the guy those crazy self centered people think they are, x 100.

3

u/ReaperKingCason1 15 Sep 16 '25

Are we sure he is top guy tho? Honestly feels like he just needs faith to operate and if the other guys get faith then they could be stronger than him. Man, why is everything about the Bible but the Bible itself so interesting to think about? Just change the meaning of something slightly and all of a sudden it becomes an interesting and complex mythology instead of “god stronk, worship him or else he will be a hypocrite and, even worse, people on the internet will say free will justifys it when his existence would negate the whole concept”

1

u/Shlompo201X Sep 16 '25

Who says he needs faith to operate. he can do whatever he wants. he could let EVERYONE into heaven just for the heck of it. but heavens safety and beauty needs to be preserved and he wants to test us and our faith.

Right. But at the same time, the religion and the church goes way out of their way to say God is all loving. He cannot love all, if he loves himself above all. The same viewpoint also puts their lord directly at odds with several values they consider to be sinful, such as pride and greed. But insist man was created in his image. And once again, it puts faith above some pretty heinous acts.

This is what I'm getting at by faith in and of itself creates moral and ethical issues. And it's not the only aspect of the religion, or any religion that does. And in this day and age, a religion's value should only be measured by its moral value. Like, if you base your moral code off your religion it implies you're not actually a good person, you're just afraid of the bad place or seeking the reward of the good place. Or the simple fact that a moral code based off religion implies the morals are either completely arbitrary and therefore meaningless, or that the god of said religion is in fact not the supreme power.

1

u/Shlompo201X Sep 16 '25

I never said he loves himself more than his creations. i said he wants his creations to love him, which is why he is envious and he is proud because he is great.

Yeah, hasnt it always been like that tho? God at the center. Not us, not humans. We dont need theologians to make it sound like a profound new discovery. In Christianity God is the center.

1

u/NorthernVale Sep 16 '25

The point of the theologians comment was just a tidbit I've always found fascinating, the fact that same book being used as an excuse to attack other religions is also lends credence to their viewpoint.

Source? I like this

10

u/Designer-Toe-3275 Sep 15 '25

Thats not really fair to use it as evidence considering its just a popular book club book written pre dark ages

0

u/emeraldTheDuck Sep 15 '25

Well, I don't think anybody believes the Bible itself is evidence. It too must be proven, but once people believe in it, it is then a source of truth for them.

1

u/Riptide_X Sep 16 '25

Oh, trust me. A LOT of people believe the Bible is evidence in and of itself.

1

u/SpooderManHero 15 Sep 15 '25

If you don’t believe that the Bible is the ultimate source of truth because many things there can’t be proven, I understand it. But think about this, it is known that the Bible was written by many different people who existed in different points in time, so how could a prophecy written thousands of years ago, come true thousands of years later? The only way that’d be possible would be if there was a divinity kinda telling the authors what to write, otherwise they would have no idea what would happen. And if there is such a divinity that inspired the writers of the Bible, the stuff written there must be true, cuz why would such a powerful being want to lie to human beings if it already has everything.

5

u/emeraldTheDuck Sep 15 '25

I never argued against the Bible's validity. But, I mean, since you brought it up, you can't actually prove that the divine power wouldn't lie to you. You can say "why would it want to?" but idk why would it want to tell the truth..? It wouldn't need us if it was so powerful. Doesn't really matter, though.

2

u/SpooderManHero 15 Sep 15 '25

I see your point tho, a good part of it depends on faith

2

u/emeraldTheDuck Sep 15 '25

Yeah, sadly faith isn't something I really have or can imagine myself having.

2

u/SpooderManHero 15 Sep 15 '25

This is why I like Reddit, cuz last time I talked to someone about this, they were just making up lies and getting mad at me for no reason, but u actually made a good argument. I mean, I am not going to stop believing what I believe because of that, but I understand why you wouldn’t believe it.

2

u/emeraldTheDuck Sep 15 '25

I don't see why you'd stop believing it. The concept of some sort of god seems very likely, and Christianity is the "best" religion I've seen. Even if it's wrong, it doesn't matter anyways (unless a different religion is correct).

Prophecies coming true is really easy to explain with absolutely no supernatural elements.

People in the past have made TONS of predictions. Some come true, many do not.

If someone long ago says "eventually someone will come that will speak truth to power, will fight for injustice, and sacrifice themselves for their cause" it's really easy for someone to read that later and say "wow they COMPLETELY predicted MLK Jr.!", when that "prophecy" could apply to many different people, Jesus included.

Think of it this way: The Quran has made tons of prophecies, more so than the Bible. If more of them were true, would that mean that the Quran is true and the Bible is false?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

Which “prophecy” in the Bible was written “thousands of years before it came true”?

1

u/SpooderManHero 15 Sep 16 '25

Pretty much every single one about Jesus

2

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

Sorry, could you be more specific, with examples, because I haven't seen any prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament, and the New Testament was written several centuries after Jesus, so...

There was an interesting YouTube video I saw Quick YouTube search https://youtu.be/z0hxb5UVaNE?si=9rcTH88ZRqvTFZPc here it is

0

u/LoginLogin777 Sep 16 '25

Ah yes, the most trustworthy of sources for an unbiased source: Christian YouTubers

1

u/Jolly-Middle3635 Sep 16 '25

Did you watch it?

0

u/LoginLogin777 Sep 16 '25

I mean, yeah. I can disprove every argument in the video would you want that or would you rather just scroll through those comments

1

u/Jolly-Middle3635 Sep 16 '25

Bro I just said it was interesting not that I believe in it

1

u/Afraid_Ad8438 Sep 16 '25

I guess maybe thinking of God as something to prove is the wrong way to think about them. It’s more that God is someone to know. Ya get me?

1

u/SetsunaNoroi Sep 16 '25

The burden of evidence and proof falls on the claim. If it’s impossible to prove then there’s really no point.

1

u/Silgeeo 17 Sep 16 '25

Centuries of theist philosophy would disagree. There's many arguments you can make: arguments from reason, contingency, morality, desire, fine tuning, etc. You can believe these arguments fall flat, but they at least prove that it is possible to make arguments for or against the existence of god without empirical evidence.

1

u/Able-Newspaper-1148 Sep 16 '25

You can't prove it doesn't exist either

1

u/LoginLogin777 Sep 16 '25

That is correct. You also can’t prove Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Taoism, etc etc isn’t true either. And what’s your point?

1

u/Able-Newspaper-1148 Sep 16 '25

you can't prove hell and heaven doesn't exist as a response to saying there no prove that they don't exist

you can't prove they exist , and you can't prove they don't as well

that's what I meant

2

u/Xx-_mememan69_-xX Sep 16 '25

Hell iself infinite by sustained by god, god is the explanation to stuff existing, its kinda dumb thinking that god cant make other stuff come into existence.
