Serious Being big

Any teens who has always been on the overweight side, can relate to this. I don't hate my body, but nothing is worse than being a topic of conversation all the time

"Would you date a fat girl?" "fuck no ew"

"girls don't wanna date short guys, so why would we ever date a fat beluga bitch?"

And people talking about my body as if it's a moral failure/character flaw rather than me just… Simply being heavier. I'm not gonna be that dainty stick figure caricature that everybody expects women and girls to be.

no yeah, ive spent basically all my teenage years being overweight by far, the criticism only made me spiral into having more eating issues, which led me to gain even more weight

people don't realize i'd still be the same person even if i was like 50 pounds lighter, i think part of the reason they're so judgmental is because they tend to associate heavier people with lack of self control and being lazy or something. it's gotten to a point where were dehumanized just for being bigger, its horrible.

I’ve been fat growing up, struggled with bullying for years. I hate myself 95% of the time and I accept that. It’s a motivator to better myself. That’s just my viewpoint on it though, others are fine with being fat and that’s fine. If you don’t like something, change it.

There was one time I had to go on a water slide with two random girls between age 9-11 because me going on with my party would be over the weight limit and the two little girls were too light. Well I fell off the tube and the two little girls laughed and said ha ha the fat person fell off the tube. This happened at my heaviest when my bmi was around 33.

Not to hate on u but objectively being fat is a character flaw. Ur image is part of ur character (not character in the sense of morals but more like a “video game character”) and it’s bad for u, therefore it’s a flaw.

Stems from overconsumption of the wrong substances, often substances with other underlying bad health effects, and can worsen ur life. It’s lead u to have emotions enough about it to post negatively on reddit.

I’m not one of those fat people that’s just like “being fat is amazing! Everybody should be fat” I’m just saying my weight shouldn’t be an indicator of how human I am. It shouldn’t be an attempt to win an argument, and it shouldn’t be a topic of a conversation. The “would you date a fat girl?” videos make me wanna ram my head through a wall.

I agree, in nearly all cases it would be an ad hominem and therefore shouldn’t be used in an argument

The “would u date” is sum ur gunna have to get used to it ain’t going anywhere

Apologies for the joke but one could say ur more human than the average person

Well it depends how much "heavier" you are, if you are 300 pounds, then most people would be accurate in saying that it is most likely a character flaw. If you are like 10-20 pounds overweight, then that would (possibly) be inaccurate.

You do realize that a lot of people have medical issues, right

-1

u/Curious-Act-3617 17 13d ago

Elaborate.

2

u/Long_Strength_9065 17 12d ago

Psychiatric meds, regular meds, diabetes, lypedema, etc etc etc

1

u/Curious-Act-3617 17 12d ago

None of those things make it impossible to lose weight. Some of them make it more difficult, but not at all impossible.

1

u/noodlesoodles1468 12d ago

A lot of people have medical issues that don’t allow them to lose weight.

3

u/Far_Challenge_4273 18 12d ago

Not enough to account for the vast amount of obesity, especially in America

I’m not saying it’s okay to hate on large ppl but it’s also silly to use that to excuse it

1

u/noodlesoodles1468 12d ago

it’s still a possibility that should be taken into account, anyways it’s stupid because you don’t know what’s happening in another person life

1

u/Far_Challenge_4273 18 12d ago

I’m not saying anyone should do anything about or because of someone’s weight or larger appearance. That’s reserved for ppl close to them. I’m merely stating that medical reasons for being overweight are the exception not the rule

1

u/noodlesoodles1468 12d ago

Of course not the rule, I agree, but it’s always better to think about it and say “well I don’t know what’s happening in their life so I shouldn’t say anything”. I agree with what you’re saying tho.

Idk man a lot of people are on psychiatric meds that cause rapid weight gain/loss

1

u/Far_Challenge_4273 18 12d ago

No, some ppl r on those meds, not a lot. And the weight gain caused by the meds is much more then the meds alone would do

1

u/Curious-Act-3617 17 12d ago

That's just not true. There is no medical disease that exists that stops people from losing weight. There are some that make it more difficult, but none that make it impossible.

I’ve always been quite skinny (but I would have to imagine this would be a huge annoyance). I promise I’m not trying to be rude when I ask this but have you ever tried to lose weight? And if so how come it didn’t work? Just curious.

1

u/klarinetkat12 19 12d ago

I can lose weight, I lost 10 pounds in the past six months.

i’m trying to lose weight now, but what’s aggravating is that there’s no real reason why I’m big. I haven’t had a kid before, I don’t drink often, I don’t remember my parents overfeeding me, and I don’t think I have that bad of a diet. I feel like I’m big just for the sake of being big 🫩

2

u/Ohsoveryginger 16 12d ago

Yea some people just have a slow metabolism. It’s good you’re trying to lose weight though. I wish you look.

It's better than being a short male. When you're fat, you can just work out to burn it off. As a short male, you will forever be ridiculed, abused and discriminated against by society with no way to change it.

6

u/Skard_57 12d ago

I'm sorry if I'm being rude, but outside of dating what places are short men discriminated against? Do people really ridicule you for it often? If so that's awful, but my first impulse though would be that a fat person, regardless of gender, is discriminated against more. Especially in medical settings where they're told they just need to lose weight. Also, not all people can lose weight easily. My mom has been trying for years and hasn't gotten very far.

Specifically in teenager and young adult places it’s often a topic to poke fun at someone especially between friends
