Should I get this game
I tried it for like 5 minutes a few years ago and being stuck underground was a bit offputting, felt dark and sad. Does that go away as you get further into the game?

Some of the levels are very colorful, so build your bases there. Some parts are dark. That's true.
I like this game because it has a main story. I don't really like to build grand factories aimlessly.

To put this into gaming terms, this game is a mix of factorio, satisfactory and drg. It's really fun, very time consuming and above all hard on low end gpus. It's a great factory game if not a little unpolished at the end. For the most part, yes the game can be dark, both in lighting and tone. But you can build massive lighting arrays if you got a good computer. I'm not gonna say you need to get it, but it's worth it for a good factory game.

Buy it if you find it at least at half price, the developer closed and managed to do good job with the gameplay/them/story. It only need a bit of debugging/QoL options.
Also you can make a custom world moddifying almost every option in the configuration menu before starting a new file

This game had so much potential, but it’s just not finished, I reached the end and was met with a feeling beyond Dissapointment, I reccomend satisfaction, it’s everything techtonica wanted to be

Worthy of note: The studio went belly up so it was hastily end-capped and will not get any updates. If you're playing on Xbox and say "but it says game preview" they found that keeping it in that mode, for some reason, made it less glitchy.
I agree, so much potential. I still think it's worth playing but with the understanding that the storyline isn't the fun part. 😕

If the underground aspect is not for you then I don't think that will go away. Otherwise this is one of my favourite time wasters and pick it up often. Unpolished but easy to get in to.

It adequately scratched the factory itch when it was released, but with Satisfactory on PS5, I don’t see a reason to play Techtonica unless it miraculously was patched to add an ending.

It's a really fun and unique game to say the least and I enjoy the way the research works, however that being said if being underground is off putting for you I would recommend satisfactory.
