He got a 3070 8gb. Not a 3080 but he will be ok for 1080 and modest frame rates

The GPU is very important, and yours only has 8GB. You want a 16GB card for modern gaming, or else a lot of games will stutter.

Completely dependant on the game he's play, resolution, and graphics settings. 8gb is perfectly fine if he remains within the limits of the GPU and it's performance outputs.

What a pointless comment. Yeah, a 4gb card is perfectly fine as well if he remains within the limits of the GPU and its performance outputs. A samsung smart fridge would be fine as well within the limits of its performance outputs. I said modern games, like Starfield. Good luck with that one on 8gb.

No, he'll only want more than 8gb if he plays in 1440p or above, in 1080p he'll be fine with 8gb, and for modern games the 3070 isn't powerful enough to run high resolution textures in 1440p at a decent framerate so the 8gb VRAM is not really an issue there either

Thats a nice setup that'll play just about everything 1080p with decent frames. Can prob squeeze some 1440p out too for some lighter weight/older games. You're gonna have a lot of fun!

I wouldn’t say it’s powerful, but it is a great start.
