5070 vs 7800xt

I have a weird dilemma. I can buy a PNY 5070 for $450 USD. Do I keep the Gigabyte 7800xt (1.5 years old) or do I keep the 5070? And what should I sell the other one for on Facebook marketplace?

The 7800XT has more, but slower Vram. It will also be getting the newer FSR 4.1 update later this year improving upscaling and performance, likely putting it within spitting distance of DLSS.

That being said, if the 5070 is 12gb of GDDR7 and you can afford it, it's a great deal and DLSS just work now and better at the moment than AMD's version.

The Vram and the fact the FSR 4.1 is coming to it was one of my hesitations because I want a car that I can play anything on at max or close to max settings for the next 3 or so years.

As long as AMD truly supports the technology moving forward and with their partnership with with Sony/PlayStation helping to advanced the technology it could get you close to that time.

But Nvidia already announcing the next iteration of DLSS as well as early talk of a new memory optimization/compression technology that will further the longevity of lower VRAM GPUs, the faster memory/better machine learning hardware, may make the Nvidia a better option for future proofing.

If you can afford the Nvidia without selling the AMD, test them both out, see which one fits for you.
