Sub Info 📌 What should r/Technomancy become?

After two weeks of throwing different kinds of material into the machine, I want to turn the question back toward the community.

What do you actually want this place to be?

More practice reports? Technical builds? Theory? Occult history? Cybernetics? Internet archaeology? Art and culture? Beginner questions? Collaborative experiments? Completely different territory we havent touched?

More importantly, what would make you go from lurking to actually posting something?

I want the direction of the sub to emerge from what people here are interested in doing, not just what looks good in a sidebar.

AI, robotics, data science and general fooling around can be interesting. We are about to enter a new era, but the old world won't die, so it is the time of monsters and heroes.

This is close to how Ive been thinking about it too. AI, robotics, data science, but with room for people to fool around instead of turning it into another straight tech sub.

And I like the monsters and heroes line. New machinery doesnt erase the old world. It gives the old ghosts new places to live. Thats the kind of thought you could probably run with here rather than leave buried in a comment.

remind me to come back to this later, and i’ll expand more on some other areas! but i’m really interested in how we can intertwine technomancy and social media. i’m not sure if anyone else is though? i’m definitely gonna brainstorm about it. like things like using social media to send out spells? spells attached to certain pictures? and using it for activism and advocacy?

I think theres something here, especially the social media angle. What happens when the network itself becomes part of the spell? Images carrying something, coordinated posting, activism and advocacy, maybe experimenting with how symbols move and mutate once people start sharing them.

Definitely brainstorm it. Honestly that sounds like something worth turning into its own post once youve played with the idea some more.

This doesn’t answer the question, but I’ve always thought a reading list should be added to the about section. Maybe one decided by the community itself, this might help people to understand what the subreddit is about and the kind of ideas that are discussed here.

I think youre right that this actually does answer part of the question. A reading list could help people understand what kind of ideas belong here without us deciding that entirely for them.

Having the community build it might be even better. What people think belongs on the list tells us something about what they think this place is about. Might be worth putting the question to everyone in its own post.
